Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Linguist III to join our team. This is a remote role, The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Linguistics and meet specific language proficiency requirements. This role involves performing linguistic analyses, contributing to AI and NLP projects, and collaborating with engineers and research scientists.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform linguistic analyses on large datasets.
  • Conduct linguistic error analysis of AI model outputs to identify frequent and severe error categories.
  • Write and revise guidelines for human annotation and other AI projects, including translation tasks.
  • Conduct typological and sociolinguistic research on various languages, highlighting similarities and differences.
  • Perform linguistic analyses for Responsible AI, focusing on toxic language, hate speech, gender bias, and other cultural biases in multilingual settings.
  • Conduct linguistic literature reviews on NLP-adjacent topics and summarize findings.
  • Compare vendor deliveries, identify error patterns, and provide actionable feedback.
  • Provide guidance on linguistic knowledge, including typology, morpho-syntax, sociolinguistics, classification, phonetics/phonology, and pragmatics.
  • Collaborate with native speakers of various languages.
  • Communicate linguistic analysis results to engineers and research scientists.
Qualifications:
  • PhD in Linguistics (required).
  • Near-native or native bilingual proficiency in a Dravidian language and professional fluency in an Indo-Aryan language (required).
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills, especially in business and research contexts.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL; additional coding languages for data analysis are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform under pressure.
  • Knowledge of international language-classification standards is valued.
  • Experience with fieldwork, corpus linguistics, and applying basic NLP techniques is a plus.
  • Experience working cross-functionally and collaborating with machine learning, NLP, or software engineers, or data scientists.
  • Experience contributing to research papers.

Pay Range: $50 - $55/hour on W2
