Job description

Position Summary: Provides proper and safe exercise instruction and motivational support to patients based on individual abilities and medical needs. Initiates and monitors exercise programs for individuals with various diseases and maintains accurate documentations. Performs cleaning, stocking, and general care of gym areas and exercise equipment. Responds to patient's vital signs and symptoms by initiating appropriate medical procedures. Reports medical or technical concerns to Physical Therapist or Primary Care Provider.
Crtitical Tasks:
  • Provides support and mentoring to patients regarding instructional programs, exercise routine development, fitness training, and community events.
  • Assesses client fitness levels, determines health risks, and designs fitness plan accordingly.
  • Provides motivational and technical exercise support to patients regarding proper and safe use of exercise equipment relative to individual exercise program needs.
  • Monitors client progress, provides guidance, and records information in client files. Responds to client's vital signs and reports any concerns.
  • Coordinates and leads a variety of fitness and program-specific health improvement programs and promotions.
  • Performs preventative equipment maintenance and maintains cleaning logs.
  • Presents program information in schools, district meetings, health fairs, and senior centers to promote program outreach to community members.
  • Researches health and fitness educational topics and identifies appropriate participant educational materials.
  • Prepares various reports and participates in departmental orientation, on the job training, and quality assurance programs and initiatives.
  • Conducts participant surveys to determine satisfaction with programs and assess on-going needs.
  • Attends a variety of meetings, workshops, and trainings.
  • Performs other job-related activities as requested.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science / Wellness preferred.
  • Current and valid Personal Trainer Certificate by an accredited organization such as ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ACE, etc.
  • Member of federally recognized tribe preferred.
  • Current and continuing CPR and AED training and certifications.
  • State of Arizona driver's license with no significant violations during the last 5 years.
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
