Reports to:ย Director of Physical Education, Athletics & Extracurricular Activities- Josh Wagnerย

Meeting Schedule: Weekly

Position Summary:
The Envirothon Adviser leads Cooperstown High School's Envirothon Team, a competitive academic club focused on environmental science, conservation, and natural resource management. The adviser prepares students to compete in regional and potentially state-level competitions by guiding them through in-depth study sessions, presentations, and hands-on learning in key environmental topics.

Key Responsibilities:

ย 
  • Organize and lead weekly study sessions covering topics such as:

    ย 
    • Soil and land use

    • Aquatic ecology

    • Forestry

    • Wildlife science

    • Current environmental issues

  • Form and mentor two competitive teams of five students each

  • Prepare students for the Leatherstocking Regional Envirothon at Gilbert Lake State Park (late April), including required presentations

  • Coordinate materials provided by the National Conservation Foundation and local sponsors (Soil and Water Conservation Service, USDA)

  • Plan and supervise a potential overnight trip to the State Envirothon Competition in late May if the team qualifies

  • Promote academic and career exploration in environmental and conservation sciences

  • Foster an inclusive environment for all interested students
