GE Appliances, a Haier company, is seeking a curious and innovative Applications Chemist to join our R&D team and help develop next-generation cleaning solutions and materials technologies for residential appliances.
This role will focus on evaluating and optimizing detergents, rinse aids, fabric care additives, and other consumable products that interact with our appliances. The position will also support the evaluation of coatings, finishes, and material technologies that contribute to product durability and appearance.
The ideal candidate has foundational knowledge in chemistry, surfactants, materials, or formulation science, inorganic and organic coating technologies, and is excited to apply scientific principles to real-world consumer products.
This role will combine chemistry, experimentation, and product development to improve the consumer experience through better cleaning performance, material durability, and innovative appliance coating technologies. You will have the opportunity to learn across multiple technical disciplines while working closely with engineering, materials, and product development teams to develop industry-leading coatings and cleaning solutions for our consumers.

How You'll Create Possibilities
  • Design and conduct laboratory studies to evaluate cleaning chemistry, detergent ingredients, and wash additive performance.

  • Develop test methods and performance protocols to assess cleaning efficacy, residue control, material compatibility, and appliance reliability.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand how detergents and additives interact with appliance systems and wash cycles.

  • Consult and evaluate coating technologies necessary for appliance products.

  • Support benchmarking activities to understand competitive products, technologies, and performance claims.

  • Partner with suppliers and external laboratories to evaluate new ingredients, formulations, and technologies.

  • Investigate product performance issues and support root cause analysis activities.

  • Contribute to sustainability initiatives through evaluation of environmentally responsible ingredients and technologies.

  • Support evaluation of appliance coatings, finishes, and appearance-related technologies.

  • Participate in cross-functional product development teams to deliver innovative consumer solutions for graphics and all organic and inorganic coatings.

  • Direct communications with all potential coasting and graphics suppliers to understand new technologies and coating advancements.

What You'll Bring to Our Team
  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Colloid Science, or a related technical field.

  • Strong understanding of chemistry fundamentals, including surfactants, solution chemistry, polymers, colloids, materials, or related disciplines.

  • 3 or more years of demonstrated laboratory experience through academic research, industry experience, internships, or product development projects.

  • Experience designing experiments, analyzing data, and drawing technical conclusions.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
