Job description

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our international AI in Engineering team within Advanced Concepts & Capabilities. This role designs, builds, and deploys AI‑ and data‑driven solutions that improve engineering productivity, accelerate model and simulation workflows, and support the development of data‑enabled engineering tools across Trane Technologies.

What you will do
  • Develop data science, machine learning, and generative AI solutions that support engineering use cases such as data access, content extraction, data enhancement, recall and extraction, and agent-enabled workflows.
  • Build and refine data pipelines, preprocessing workflows, and model-ready datasets for engineering, test, and simulation data.
  • Design, test, and deploy predictive, optimization, and AI‑enabled applications that improve engineering productivity and decision-making.
  • Support AI software development lifecycle initiatives by contributing to proof-of-concepts, use case evaluation, implementation planning, and enterprise-facing tool development.
  • Help convert fragmented engineering knowledge and historical data into searchable, reusable, agent-accessible resources that improve continuity and reduce lost expertise.
  • Collaborate with engineering, modeling and simulation, controls, and digital teams to integrate AI into tools, workflows, and product-development processes.
  • Contribute to engineering data and AI initiatives spanning domain-specific chatbots, regulatory and compliance support tools, digital twins, time-series forecasting, solver acceleration, and physics-informed models.
  • Work with cloud platforms, connectors, registries, and orchestration frameworks to enable secure and scalable AI solutions for engineering teams.
  • Prepare concise technical readouts, visuals, and recommendations that communicate results and next steps to technical stakeholders and leadership.
  • Mentor junior team members, contribute to team standards, and help build repeatable methods for AI and data science delivery across the international AI in Engineering organization.
What you will bring
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience with Python for data analysis, model development, and application development.
  • Solid foundation in machine learning, statistical modeling, and generative AI concepts.
  • Experience handling raw, unstructured, and engineering data, including preprocessing, feature development, and preparing data for modeling workflows.
  • Familiarity with SQL, NoSQL, cloud services, and modern AI/ML tooling.
  • Experience building or supporting applications, workflows, or services that operationalize analytics or AI solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively across a distributed, international team and partner with engineering stakeholders across multiple domains and locations.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical business and engineering outcomes.

Salary and Benefits

Annual Base Salary: $90,900.00 - $189,800.00. Eligible for incentive. No sales commission. Compensation varies by location, seniority, and other factors.
