Job Summary
The Associate Chief Medical Information Officer (ACMIO) for Behavioral Health provides medical leadership in the planning, research, development, implementation, and optimization of clinical information technology. The ACMIO works closely with behavioral health clinicians, nurses, and other employee to evaluate, optimize and implement informatics software, including the electronic health record (EHR) to improve the delivery of care, provider efficiency and effectiveness. The ACMIO will work closely with the CMIO and ACMIOs to drive clinical information technology advancements that are aligned with Denver Health's Mission and Strategic Plan.
The ACMIO is the advocate for the use of information technology in the delivery of behavioral healthcare across the organization and is expected to provide input on optimal technology use for the advancement of clinical quality, safety and performance improvement initiatives.
Essential Functions:
  • Strategy and Planning
    Assists in planning for Denver Health's future electronic health record and IT functionality, including clinical decision support with a focus on those used in the provision of behavioral healthcare. Assesses and provides recommendations for emerging IT technologies and applications to support improved provider operations and communication. (10%)
  • Governance and Compliance
    Facilitates governance processes for the planning, prioritization, implementation, monitoring and optimization of clinical IT tools in use in locations where behavioral healthcare is provided. Responsible for ensuring alignment of Epic data and related content with regulatory standards. (10%)
  • Provider Wellbeing
    Partners with Clinical Informatics and Medical Leadership to design and lead programs to improve provider wellbeing and efficiency through clinical IT tool and workflow improvement, staff training and support. (10%)
  • Decision Support and Information Technology - Continuous Improvement
    Collaborates with clinical effectiveness and quality performance programs to transform information technology, the EHR and other clinical systems to positively impact patient safety, clinical effectiveness and the quality of patient care. (10%)
  • Clinical Care Support
    Collaborates with medical and IT leadership to guide the design and development of clinical IT Systems by providing medical expertise, coordination and communication to ambulatory medical and clinical staff regarding clinical IT systems. Contributes to the design of clinical and enterprise data warehouse strategies and clinical registries to enhance clinical research and population-oriented care. (10%)
  • Patient Care
    Admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages with psychiatric illnesses. May perform administrative duties as assigned within behavioral health such as ensuring adherence to regulatory frameworks, working on continuous quality improvement and learning health system implementation, building relationships with key external partners, and other tasks that contribute to the mission of the organization. (50%)

Education:
  • Doctorate Degree from an Accredited Medical School and completed Accredited Residency Programs and fellowships for specialist, or equivalent. Required

Work Experience:
  • 4-6 years of clinical informatics experience as an attending physician. Required
  • 4-6 years Experience in medical staff leadership and organizational activities. Required and
  • 4-6 years Substantive experience in an academic teaching environment preferred.

Licenses:
  • MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required

  • Excellent communication skills; written and verbal.

  • Member in good standing of the Denver Health Medical Staff.
  • Motivates excellence and teamwork among providers and staff, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Ability to integrate clinical, quality/patient safety, management and financial concepts with health information technology within an academic healthcare setting.
  • Experience in leading high-performing, cross-functional teams; designing and implementing processes for strong and effective clinical and practice management operations.

  • Comfortable using mobile technology, emerging applications.
  • Broad based knowledge of Healthcare IT applications which support clinical documentation, CPOE, ancillary departmental systems (Lab, Radiology, Pharmacy, Cardiology, etc.) and the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Basic computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to represent medical staff needs in regards to clinical IT.
  • Demonstrated capability in change management strategies while maintaining respect for organizational culture and history
