Job description

The Honors Program seeks students who are creative, organized, and excited to support the Honors Program. Student Assistants will report to the Faculty Director and the Assistant Director of the HN Program and will serve as a peer resource for students, will maintain a welcoming and organized Honors Suite environment, and distribute information regarding Honors events and information.

Work Schedule: 10 hours per week; schedule determined collaboratively

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as a peer resource and welcoming presence in the Honors Suite by greeting students, answering basic questions, and connecting students with information regarding the Honors program.

  • Develop and produce digital content for the Honors Program including graphics, photography, short-form videos, captions and social media posts. 

  • Manage and update the Honors Program's social media platforms in alignment with university and divisional expectations.

  • Publicize student organization events through appropriate Honors Program communication channels.

  • Design posters, flyers and other print or digital promotional materials for Honors Program and related student organization events. 

  • Table at selected Honors Program events when scheduling allows for incoming and current student outreach. 

  • Meet frequently with the Director and Assistant Director of the Honors Program to provide communications updates and offer creative input.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Currently an active member of the Honors Program in good standing.

  • Experience creating digital content for social media platforms.

  • Working knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar design, editing, and collaboration tools.

  • Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills. 

  • Ability to communicate professionally with current and prospective Honors students and faculty, campus partners, and Honors Program staff.

  • Interest in creating and coordinating Honors Program events and activities and engaging in outreach to support feelings of student belonging and community within the Honors Program.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Prior involvement in the events, coursework, and related activities of the Honors Program.

  • Ability to take initiative, identify communication opportunities, and make creative recommendations to strengthen student engagement.

  • Comfort building relationships with students of the Honors Program and learning about the needs of our current and future students.

  • Interest in developing communications, marketing, and design skills.

  • Ensure confidentiality of information.
