What does a pharmacy instructor do?

A Pharmacy Instructor is responsible for teaching and training students in the field of pharmacy, often at colleges, universities, or technical schools. They develop and deliver course material on topics such as pharmacology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug interactions, and pharmacy law. In addition to classroom teaching, Pharmacy Instructors may supervise laboratory work, mentor students during clinical rotations, and stay up-to-date with advancements in pharmaceutical sciences. Their role is essential in preparing future pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to provide safe and effective patient care.

How do pharmacy instructors typically balance classroom teaching with hands-on training in their role?

Pharmacy Instructors often split their time between delivering theoretical content in classroom settings and supervising practical training in laboratories or clinical environments. This balance ensures students gain both foundational knowledge and real-world skills needed for pharmacy practice. Instructors collaborate closely with other faculty and sometimes local pharmacies to coordinate experiential learning opportunities. Managing this balance requires effective time management and adaptability to meet curriculum standards and student needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pharmacy instructor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pharmacy Instructor, you need an advanced degree in pharmacy (PharmD or PhD), a pharmacist license, and a solid background in pharmacology and teaching methodologies. Familiarity with learning management systems, pharmacy simulation software, and current clinical guidelines is typically required. Strong communication, mentorship, and organizational skills help you effectively engage students and foster their professional growth. These skills ensure that future pharmacists receive high-quality education and are well-prepared for clinical practice.

Job description

Company Overview:

Strive Pharmacy is a personalized compounding pharmacy built on a simple conviction: medicine should fit the patient, not the other way around. We started Strive because we believed the pharmaceutical industry was overdue for a more human approach—one that prioritizes individualized care, clinical nuance, and genuine partnership with patients and providers.

Compounding gives us the tools to do that. Every formulation we prepare is built to the specific needs of a specific person, and every interaction we have is guided by that same commitment to personalized care.

We're growing, and we're looking for people who share that conviction. If you're ready to be part of a pharmacy that takes the work seriously and the people even more seriously, we'd like to meet you.

Mission:

Strive exists to disrupt an industry long overdue for a more personal approach to care. We put the human element at the center of everything: every formulation, every patient interaction, every provider partnership. We're not just a compounding pharmacy. We're a team on a mission to change what personalized healthcare looks and feels like.

  • Evaluate sales calls, meetings, presentations, and recorded interactions to identify coaching opportunities and performance trends.
  • Provide individual and group coaching to improve sales effectiveness, communication, product knowledge, and execution.
  • Establish and manage sales readiness standards, certification requirements, and knowledge assessments.
  • Measure training effectiveness through participant feedback, assessment results, behavior change, sales performance, conversion metrics, ramp time, and other defined outcomes.
  • Use performance data and business feedback to identify skill gaps and recommend targeted training interventions.
  • Maintain an annual and quarterly sales training calendar aligned with product launches, business priorities, onboarding needs, and sales initiatives.
  • Partner with Sales Leadership to identify high-priority development needs across teams, territories, roles, and performance levels.

  • Maintain current training records, completion data, assessment results, certification status, and required documentation.
  • Support the rollout of new products, services, messaging, systems, workflows, and commercial initiatives.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive practices, sales methodologies, and adult-learning strategies to continuously improve training programs.
  • Ensure sales training reflects applicable healthcare, pharmacy, privacy, marketing, and compliance requirements.
  • Reinforce approved messaging and prevent unsupported clinical, operational, legal, or service commitments during the sales process.
  • Protect confidential company, customer, provider, patient, pricing, and business information.
  • Perform other duties and sales enablement projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, education, communications, healthcare administration, organizational development, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
