Job description

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is dedicated to advancing cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through groundbreaking research and exceptional patient care. Our Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is committed to providing the highest quality clinical pharmaceutical care to children, integrating research findings into clinical practice as swiftly as possible.
This role serves as the primary team member responsible for the administration, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of the Omnicell medication management system as part of the Pharmacy Automation team and as part of the Pharmacy Informatics Community at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Extensive experience with both Omnicell and Epic is strongly preferred.
The position supports automated pharmacy systems used for medication dispensing, packaging, inventory management, and distribution, ensuring that equipment, software, system configurations, and workflows operate accurately, reliably, and efficiently. Responsibilities include coordinating system upgrades and testing; managing user, device, and system configurations; monitoring inventory and system performance; resolving technical and operational issues; and partnering with pharmacy, information technology, clinical, engineering, system administration, and vendor teams.
Given the significant system administration responsibilities of this position, the role also serves as a key liaison between pharmacy staff and engineering and system administration teams outside the department, helping translate operational needs, coordinate issue resolution, and support system enhancements.
This role supports pharmacists and other pharmacy personnel while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies and promoting patient safety.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and support daily operations of pharmacy business applications and serve as a senior liaison for issue triage, system recovery, and hardware/software support in collaboration with internal teams and vendors.
  • Coordinate and perform routine and specialized preventive maintenance on department technology solutions, ensuring tasks are completed according to defined service levels. Perform functional and safety tests and install new equipment per manufacturer's specifications.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment failures, replace parts or modules, and calibrate to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Communicate with vendors, research and clinical staff to solve problems. Responsible for orientation and training of new employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Consistently meet job expectations, adhere to policies, and deliver quality work while applying. St. Jude values and principles. Managers evaluate employee performance throughout the year-specifically through the spring and fall Check In milestones and the Annual Performance Review. All employees are encouraged to actively participate in these performance management processes.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
  • High School Diploma required
  • Associates Degree preferred
  • Technical school diploma OR Certification with 4+ years of relevant experience.
Minimum Experience:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in related area (e.g., Electronic Technology or Biomedical Engineering)
  • Strong knowledge of hospital policies and departmental procedures.
  • Proficient as an end-user of pharmacy software required.
  • Experience designing and/or managing databases required.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:
  • Registration of Pharmacy Technician License with the State of Tennessee required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required.
  • Apexus Certified Expert and Pharmacy Basic Life Support preferred.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $70,720 - $126,880 per year for the role of Sr Pharmacy Automation Technician.
