Job description

Clinical Informatics Pharmacist

Job Category: Professional

Shift: 1 - Day Shift

SUMMARY:

Works in the build, implementation, troubleshooting, support of automation and technology to optimize pharmacy practice, pharmacy systems, and the medication‑use process. Specializes in the medication process, from ordering to administration, and is responsible for effective process design, development, and implementation of the Electronic Medical Record and Clinical Decision Support. Supports pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other clinicians as the resource for requests related to EMR and pharmacy system changes and additions. Provides EMR related staff education and training. This individual also assists in the broader process of clinical systems implementation, problem identification and resolution through coordination and collaboration among physicians, clinical staff and Information Technology to ensure Pharmacy systems are interoperable and coordinated with the core systems in use.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Works in the build, implementation, integration, and maintenance of automation and technology toassure safe and appropriate use of medications.
  • Assures appropriate testing of all integratedapplications.
  • Ensures that knowledge‑based information, which includes the scientific literature ofhealthcare, is appropriately considered and evaluated prior to implementation of software changes.
  • Participates in development, monitoring, and evaluation of decision support for continuousimprovement, particularly for medications.
  • Partners with clinicians to identify and facilitate advancedclinical decision support implementation within the electronic medical record in order to meet clinicalgoals.
  • Participates in functional testing for human factors issues before and after system upgrades andimprovements.
  • Assists inorder set management: Development and maintenance of overall principles for safedesign and use of order sets, with a focus on medications.
  • Development and maintenance of standardorder set clinical content, standards, patient safety principles, and evidence based practice guidelines.
  • Promotes effective communication concerning medication use applications.
  • Assumes responsibility forthe timely dissemination of information as related to pharmacy automation and technology.
  • Participatesas a member of interdepartmental committees when requested and imparts knowledge related topharmacy automation and technology.
  • Actively participates in the development, prioritization, anddetermination of core clinical decision‑support systems.
  • Ensures pharmacy systems are compliant with andsupport regulatory guidelines to include state and federal rules and regulations, The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services and recognized pharmacy practice standards.
  • Provides supportfor pharmacy residency research activities.
  • Provides support to medical staff and allied healthprofessionals for drug utilization data gathering and analysis.
  • Provides support for internal audits, billing and financial analysis.
  • Participates in quality projects and on assignedcommittees to provide expertise on using the clinical information system to achieve goals.
  • Participates in the orientation, education, and mentoring of new staff as needed.
  • Designs and implements quality improvement changes to the organization’s medication‑use system.
  • O versees work of Pyxis Specialists and Application Specialists III that they directly work with
  • Adheres to TMCH organizational and department‑specific safety, confidentiality, values policies and standards.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degreefrom an AACP-accredited College of Pharmacy or Bachelor’s Degree from an AACP-accredited College of Pharmacy.
EXPERIENCE:
  • None required.
  • Four(4) years’ experienceas a hospital pharmacist strongly preferred.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:
  • Current Arizona Pharmacist license upon hire.
  • Must have or obtain Epic certification in one or more relevant products or solutions within one (1) year.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Detail oriented and capable of exploring innovative solutions to solve complex problems and address issues through the use of a combination of delivered and custom-developed tools
  • Experienced in clinical systems implementations and support including system configuration, custom development, maintenance and software upgrades
  • Ability to compile, code and categorize, or verify information/data
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, and maintain a positive attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information
  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
