The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing prescription medications to patients, providing expert counsel to patients regarding the safe use of prescription medications, and ensuring that the pharmacy prescription services are provided in compliance with regulatory, policy and procedure requirements for accuracy, safety, and security.
Primary Responsibilities
Dispense and oversee the filling of prescriptions to ensure that each patient receives the medications exactly as prescribed by medical providers. Ensure effective communication with providers, facilities, patients, and internal teams to provide patient focused accuracy, safety, and security.
Provide patient consultations regarding safe use, storage, potential side effects, and drug interactions for prescription and over-the-counter medications. Respond to inquiries from patients and consult with prescribing physicians as questions warrant.
Comply with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration by monitoring patient care and maintaining records for controlled substances.
Participate in inventory activities to remove outdated and damaged drugs from the inventory.
Maintain effective communications with facilities to foster enduring business relationships and build customer loyalty.
Provide technical, policy, and regulatory guidance to pharmacy technicians to ensure that all medications are accurately dispensed, recorded, labeled, and stored for pick up or delivery and that all reimbursements for prescription medications are accurately processed and recorded.
Assist with the maintenance of workflow, assigning pharmacy staff tasks required to maintain order and ensure an efficient and compliant pharmacy operation.
Maintain a safe a clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations outlined by the Board of Pharmacy, accreditation standards, and company policy.
Stay current on pharmacological knowledge by studying existing and new legislation and keeping up to date with current continuing education as required by NYS law.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
