Job description


The Clinical Specialist in Infectious Disease will help with the development and implementation of a facility-wide Antibiotic Stewardship Program, based on nationally recognized guidelines, to monitor and improve the use of antimicrobials. They will also be responsible for all documentation, written or electronic, of antibiotic stewardship program activities. Responsibilities will include communication and collaboration with medical staff, nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, and hospital leadership, as well as the hospital's infection prevention and control and QAPI programs, on antimicrobial use initiatives. Competency-based training and education of hospital personnel and staff, including medical staff, and, as applicable, personnel providing contracted services in the hospitals, on the practical applications of antibiotic stewardship guidelines, policies, and procedures will also be required. In addition, the clinical specialist will provide pharmaceutical care by reviewing providers' orders for appropriateness of drug ordered, dosage, route, and potential interactions and counsel nurses and providers about medications and medication-related issues. The Clinical Specialist achieves departmental and organizational objectives by providing pharmaceutical information and assistance to all members of the patient care team.
