About the Location

Onsite Position:

This position is considered to be Fully Onsite, work is to be done onsite at a PetSmart location (Phoenix Home Office, PetSmart stores, Merchandise Development Center, Distribution Centers or another PetSmart site). Specific location will be determined by evaluation of the following:

  • Home market of person hired for this role and/or selected by this individual.
  • Store with hospital facilities in place and available.

About the Job

PetSmart Veterinary Services (PVS) is part of PetSmart’s Vet Health Services (VHS), the team bringing innovative veterinary solutions under one roof. Our goal is to keep veterinary health in the hands of the veterinary professionals. We are looking for a skilled veterinarian who’s excited to deliver high-quality care. A person excited to explore the next step in leadership, hospital operations, and leading the direction of medicine practiced by their team. The high-level of autonomy in operating the clinic presents an excellent opportunity to experience what owning your own practice could be like, while giving you the tools, mentorship, and support to lead the operation of a PetSmart Veterinary Services (PVS) hospital.

Why This Role Stands Out
  • Potential path to ownership with structured support and coaching
  • Competitive salary + leadership & management stipend + performance bonuses
  • Opportunity to build and cultivate a clinic culture where pets, clients, and the team thrive
  • A role where your voice matters—spanning both high-quality veterinary medicine and operational leadership, not simply another associate general practice position
What You’ll Do – Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive wellness care across life stages, with a focus on prevention and client education
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions in dogs, cats, and select exotics
  • Perform routine and advanced soft tissue surgeries in a fully equipped suite
  • Deliver thorough dental care, including cleanings, radiographs, and extractions
  • Create and manage diagnostic and treatment plans using in-house labs and imaging
  • Build a caseload aligned with your interests—general practice, surgery, internal medicine, behavior, or others
  • Foster lasting client relationships through trust and clear communication
What You’ll Do – Leadership & Ownership Development
  • Lead and mentor the clinical team in partnership with Lead Tech on daily operations
  • Hire, coach, and develop team members to create a positive, inclusive culture
  • Collaborate on staffing, inventory, and marketing with support from the business team
  • Help ensure compliance with standards and operating policies for PVS hospitals
  • Review clinic performance metrics and receive guidance to grow as a business leader
  • Potentially transition into ownership through an independent franchise—with continued support
  • Create and manage medical treatment plans, direction, and focus.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an accredited institution
  • Licensed (and in good standing) to practice veterinary medicine in the state of employment
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in general practice, preventive care, or a community clinic setting preferred
  • Prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for client education
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, retail-based clinic model
  • Comfortable using modern veterinary software and digital records systems
