Job description

Description:

Position Overview:

Wilson’s Petroleum Equipment, Inc. is seeking dedicated individuals for our Fuel System Service Team. As a Service Technician, you will play a crucial role in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance testing of petroleum equipment at various commercial, fleet, and retail fueling sites. This role requires a strong technical mindset, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work comfortably in confined spaces and at heights.

Requirements:
  1. Key Responsibilities & Core Competencies

Your daily workload will challenge you across three distinct areas of fuel system maintenance, mechanics, and environmental safety:

1. Fleet & Legacy Dispenser Diagnostics

You will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting diverse fueling systems, including modern retail setups and older, highly reliable fleet, or classic dispensers:

  • Mechanical & Hydraulic Service: Troubleshooting positive displacement meters, rotary power pumps, suction strainers, and bypass valves when a pump isn't delivering fuel.
  • Linkages & Electronics: Calibrating mechanical registers and servicing the interfaces where mechanical computers connect with electric switches, pulsers, and solenoids.
  • Systemic Troubleshooting: Diagnosing common field issues such as air binds, broken drive shafts, or packing gland leaks.
2. Underground Storage Tank (UST) Compliance & Containment Testing

You will execute critical compliance roadmaps and testing procedures for UST facilities to align directly with strict EPA federal mandates:

  • Tightness Testing: Performing precise vacuum or hydrostatic (water) testing protocols on spill buckets, dispenser sumps, and tank sumps.
  • Overfill & Leak Prevention: Inspecting, testing, and diagnosing automatic shutoff flapper valves, ball floats, electronic high-level alarms, and line leak detectors.
  • Alarm Evaluation: Utilizing clear diagnostic criteria to determine if a triggered containment sensor is a false positive or an active equipment breach.
3. Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) System Support & Safety

You will manage aboveground tank layouts, piping modifications, and unique AST hydraulic systems:

  • Hydraulics & Piping: Diagnosing systemic plumbing issues (such as a pump repeatedly losing its prime) and inspecting normal/emergency venting, anti-siphon protection, and emergency shear valves.
  • Hazardous Zone Awareness: Adhering strictly to Class I, Division 1 and 2 electrical boundaries to ensure safe grounding, proper sealing, and static ignition prevention during all service work.
Requirements & QualificationsRequired:
  • Familiarity with fuel systems components (such as Veeder-Root, Gilbarco, or Wayne).
  • Experience or comfort working with technical manuals, diagnostic flowcharts, and environmental compliance checklists.
  • Strong attention to detail and an absolute commitment to safety protocols.
  • Physical capability to work in outdoor conditions, handle confined space entry, and work safely at heights.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean, insurable driving record.
Preferred (Not Required — We Will Train the Right Candidate):
  • Manufacturer-Specific Certifications (e.g., Veeder-Root, Tokheim, Wayne, Gilbarco).
  • PEI/RP1200 Certification.
  • Prior experience in plumbing, commercial electrical troubleshooting, or electronic control systems.
Benefits
  • Competitive Wages: Based on experience, with room for rapid advancement.
  • Travel Support: Daily Per Diem provided for overnight stays out of town.
  • Robust Health Package: Health insurance. 80% of Employee Health Premium Paid by Company after 90 days.
  • Retirement: Competitive 401K plan.
  • Growth: Continuous opportunities for professional development, manufacturer training, and career advancement.
  • PTO: One week after one year, two weeks after two years.
  • Culture: A supportive, collaborative, and safety-first work environment.
