About the Role

Redbarn Pet Products is seeking an experienced Account Manager to drive sales growth and strengthen customer partnerships within an assigned territory. This role is responsible for managing distributor and retail relationships, identifying growth opportunities, increasing product placement, and executing sales strategies that deliver results.


The ideal candidate is a motivated sales professional with experience in the pet industry who understands retail execution, distributor management, and building long-term customer relationships. This position requires strong communication skills, organization, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

Distributor Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned distributors and sales partners.
  • Monitor inventory levels, fill rates, and sales performance to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Conduct regular business reviews and develop action plans to increase revenue.
  • Drive new product placement and promotional participation.
  • Manage pricing alignment, deductions, returns, and credits.
  • Coordinate product samples, trade shows, sales meetings, and customer training.
  • Support distributor sales teams through product education and sales initiatives.
  • Execute inside and outside sales blitzes to increase market presence.

Retail Account Management

  • Grow sales within assigned retail accounts and geographic territory.
  • Increase product placement, shelf space, and secondary displays.
  • Build relationships with store-level teams and retail buyers.
  • Execute promotional programs, merchandising initiatives, and point-of-purchase displays.
  • Conduct product training for retail associates.
  • Perform store visits to assess opportunities and support sales growth.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Field-based sales role requiring regular travel to customer locations, retail stores, distributor facilities, and industry events.
  • Frequent interaction with customers, partners, and internal teams in various business environments.
  • Must be able to travel by car and occasionally by air.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and move throughout retail and customer locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry product samples, displays, and marketing materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.

Requirements


  • 3-5+ years of outside sales experience with a proven record of increasing revenue.
  • Experience managing accounts within the pet industry preferred.
  • Strong understanding of retail sales, merchandising, and distributor relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to build customer partnerships and achieve sales goals.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel regularly by car and occasional air travel.
