Job description

Vice President of Personal Insurance Carrier Relations in Business Banking Insurance

As the Vice President of Personal Insurance Carrier Relations in Business Banking Insurance, you will promote the strategy and execution for building and optimizing our personal lines carrier panel, reporting to the Head of Carrier Strategy. You will build a structured carrier relationship model and decision framework that balances growth, risk, product breadth, and service quality, while improving revenue structures. The ideal candidate is an experienced insurance professional with deep personal lines insurance agency experience versed in multiple carrier appetites and compensation terms.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end strategy for our personal lines carrier panel, including defining panel coverage needs by product, geography, customer segment, underwriting appetite, and recommending which carriers to add, expand, or retire
  • Lead initial carrier engagement through partnership launch, including executive relationship development, pitch positioning, and negotiation of commercial and operational terms
  • Develop a repeatable carrier onboarding playbook covering implementation milestones, training, technology/data exchange requirements, and launch governance
  • Establish a carrier performance governance cadence (monthly/quarterly) with shared scorecards and executive business reviews, focusing on placement performance, conversion, customer experience, retention, and operational service levels
  • Own the design, negotiation, and continuous improvement of revenue structures paid to us by carriers, including base commissions and other compensation
  • Inform overall placement strategy for personal lines insurance across our agency
  • In this early stage of our agency, provide thought leadership and agility across our agency formation activities – including involvement in ad hoc initiatives
  • Travel is expected [~20%] to carrier partner sites, industry events, and internal leadership meetings, with peaks during carrier onboarding and major negotiations.

Required qualifications, skills, and capabilities

  • Minimum 5 years of personal lines P&C agency experience
  • Proven track record building and managing carrier relationships, including executive-level negotiation and commercial structuring
  • Strong understanding of personal lines products (e.g., auto, homeowners, renters, umbrella) and carrier operating models, including underwriting appetite, pricing dynamics, and distribution economics
  • Familiarity with carrier connectivity models and operational integration concepts (e.g., data exchange, quoting/binding workflows)
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred qualifications, skills, and capabilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field
  • Industry designations such as CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor), CPCU, CISR, or AAI
  • Proficiency with at least one major agency management system
