Personal Injury Associate Attorney information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Personal Injury Associate Attorney, and why are they important?

To excel as a Personal Injury Associate Attorney, you need a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, bar admission, and a strong grasp of tort law, legal research, and litigation procedures. Familiarity with legal research platforms like Westlaw or LexisNexis, case management software, and e-filing systems is typically required. Outstanding negotiation, analytical thinking, and client communication skills help attorneys stand out in advocating for clients and managing complex cases. These capabilities are vital for effectively representing injured clients, maximizing settlements, and ensuring compliance with legal standards.

What is the difference between Personal Injury Associate Attorney vs Personal Injury Paralegal?

AspectPersonal Injury Associate AttorneyPersonal Injury Paralegal
CredentialsJuris Doctor (JD), licensed to practice lawAssociate's or Bachelor's degree, legal training or certification
Work EnvironmentLaw firms, legal offices, courtroomLaw firms, legal support departments
ResponsibilitiesLegal representation, case strategy, court appearancesLegal research, document preparation, client communication

While both roles support personal injury cases, a Personal Injury Associate Attorney has a law degree, is licensed to practice, and handles legal proceedings. A Personal Injury Paralegal assists attorneys with case preparation and administrative tasks but does not practice law or represent clients in court.

What does a Personal Injury Associate Attorney do?

A Personal Injury Associate Attorney represents clients who have been injured due to accidents or negligence, such as car accidents, slip and falls, or medical malpractice. They handle legal tasks like investigating claims, negotiating with insurance companies, drafting legal documents, and advocating for clients in court. Their primary goal is to help clients obtain compensation for their injuries, medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Personal Injury Associate Attorneys work under the supervision of more senior attorneys within a law firm and may assist in trial preparation, legal research, and client meetings.

What are some of the most common challenges faced by Personal Injury Associate Attorneys in their daily work?

Personal Injury Associate Attorneys often face the challenge of managing a high caseload while ensuring each client receives attentive and thorough representation. Balancing the demands of case preparation, client communication, and court deadlines requires strong organizational skills and resilience. Additionally, they must be adept at negotiating settlements with insurance companies and opposing counsel. Working effectively as part of a legal team and collaborating with paralegals, investigators, and senior attorneys is also essential for success in this dynamic field.

Job description

Description:

At Hensley Legal Group (HLG), we believe the work we do should matterโ€”to our clients, our communities, and our team. Every day, we step in for individuals facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives, pairing compassion with courtroom strength and a commitment to leaving clients better off than we found them.

If youโ€™re a litigation attorney who believes in the power of trial advocacy, thrives in a purpose-driven environment, and wants your work to create lasting impact, youโ€™ll feel right at home here.

Who We Are

HLG is one of the preeminent personal injury firms in the region, built on the belief that helping people isnโ€™t just a mission, itโ€™s a responsibility. We represent injured and disabled individuals with unwavering advocacy, respect, and care, while never losing sight of the human side of every case.

Our culture is grounded in strong values and a commitment to meaningful work. We believe great outcomes come from accountability, dedication, and attorneys who take ownership of their work and their clientsโ€™ results. We offer a growth-oriented environment where attorneys who consistently show up and do the work are given meaningful opportunities to learn, stretch, and advance, while making a real and lasting impact through their advocacy.

What Youโ€™ll Do

As a Personal Injury Litigation Attorney at HLG, youโ€™ll serve as lead attorney on your own caseload, supported by a dedicated case manager or paralegal, managing cases through their entire lifecycle. We believe trials matter and when a case calls for it, we are ready to stand up and fight.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a personal injury litigation caseload from filing through resolution or trial
  • Communicating with and guiding clients throughout all stages of their case
  • Handling written and oral discovery, motions, and pleadings in a timely and strategic manner
  • Gathering and evaluating evidence by working with medical providers, witnesses, and expert professionals
  • Attending depositions, mediation, and settlement negotiations with a strong understanding of case value and strategy
  • Preparing for and presenting persuasive, trial-ready cases when courtroom advocacy is necessary to achieve justice

Who You Are

You are a litigation attorney who doesnโ€™t shy away from the courtroom, you believe in it. You take pride in being the advocate clients need when the stakes are high and the pressure is real. Youโ€™re motivated by meaningful work, confident in your judgment, and energized by a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

You Bring

  • A Juris Doctor degree
  • An active law license in good standing in Indiana (Indiana and Illinois license preferred)
  • Litigation experience, preferably in personal injury
  • Strong legal writing and advocacy skills
  • Trial experience or a strong desire to build and sharpen trial skills
  • Integrity, empathy, and a client-first mindset
  • Bilingual skills are a plus

Why Youโ€™ll Love It Here

  • Purpose-driven work where your advocacy directly changes lives
  • A collaborative, supportive team of experienced litigation professionals
  • Ownership of your cases with the resources and support to succeed
  • A primarily in-office role that fosters teamwork, mentorship, and collaboration
  • Reasonable flexibility when life happens, while maintaining a team-centered environment
  • A comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid parental leave, and a pet benefits program

Attorneys should expect a minimum 40-hour workweek, with additional time as needed to meet client and case demandsโ€”because meaningful advocacy often requires going the extra mile.

If youโ€™re ready to step into a role where your expertise as a Personal Injury Litigation Attorney can create meaningful, measurable impact, weโ€™d love to meet you. Special consideration will be given to resumes submitted with a cover letter.
