Position Summary

The Project Architect is the technical leader responsible for the design integrity, technical execution, and successful delivery of architectural projects from programming through construction. Working closely with the Project Manager, Principal, consultants, and clients, this role leads technical decision-making, construction documentation, consultant coordination, code compliance, quality assurance, and construction administration to ensure projects meet design, budget, schedule, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical development and execution of projects through all phases of design and construction.
  • Establish technical goals, oversee design development, evaluate building systems, and ensure constructability.
  • Direct the preparation and review of complete construction documents, ensuring accuracy, coordination, and compliance with firm standards.
  • Coordinate structural, civil, MEP, landscape, interior, and specialty consultants while leading interdisciplinary coordination and BIM integration.
  • Perform comprehensive building code analysis, life safety reviews, accessibility compliance, energy code coordination, and permitting support.
  • Lead construction administration by reviewing RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, substitutions, ASIs, change orders, site observations, punch lists, and project closeout.
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control by reviewing project documentation, identifying technical risks, and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Lead and mentor Job Captains, Architectural Associates, and Designers by assigning work, providing technical guidance, and supporting professional development.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager on project planning, staffing, schedules, budgets, and risk management.
  • Represent the firm's technical expertise during client, consultant, contractor, and agency meetings while supporting firm initiatives, technical standards, recruiting, marketing, and strategic planning.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.

Experience

  • 8–15 years of progressively responsible architectural experience, including leadership of multidisciplinary projects through all phases of design and construction.

Licensure

  • Current architectural registration required.
  • NCARB Certificate and reciprocal licensure eligibility preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Expert proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM 360, Navisworks, rendering software, Adobe Creative Suite, and project management software is preferred.

Technical Knowledge

Comprehensive knowledge of building codes, accessibility requirements, energy codes, building systems, structural and MEP coordination, construction sequencing, specifications, sustainable design, contract administration, and construction practices.
