Job description

Senior Crude Scheduler

We are seeking a Senior Crude Scheduler to join our Houston-based crude operations team. This is a senior-level, execution-focused role responsible for handling crude oil movements across U.S. pipeline systems, marine vessels, and terminal infrastructure. The candidate will bring deep logistics knowledge and the operational instincts to handle complex, high-volume crude programs with minimal oversight.

Main task will be coordinating all aspects of the post-deal trading activity to ensure contract execution runs smoothly as well as providing commercial/market information to the traders as necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and execute crude oil pipeline and marine movements across U.S. systems, with a primary focus on Gulf Coast pipelines, crude blending, marine scheduling and terminal operations.
  • Handle marine scheduling including vessel nominations, laytime tracking, demurrage management, and coordination with port agents, inspectors, and terminals
  • Coordinate terminal operations including inventory positioning, inventory management, custody transfers, and product receipts and deliveries. Communicate with terminal personnel to implement product off lines/delivery plans, sampling and testing of receiving tanks if required.
  • Liaise with traders, commercial teams, and counterparties to align operational execution with trading strategy
  • Maintain relationships with pipeline operators, terminal operators, inspection companies, and laboratories
  • Handle crude blending operations where applicable, ensuring quality specifications are met and blend economics are optimized
  • Monitor and manage inventory positions across multiple locations, proactively identifying and resolving operational bottlenecks
  • Ensure accurate and timely nomination submissions, confirmations, and scheduling communications across all relevant systems
  • Oversee compliance with pipeline tariffs, terminal agreements, and regulatory requirements
  • Support claims resolution, quality investigations, and dispute management in coordination with inspection and lab providers
  • Mentor and train junior operators and schedulers to develop and increase knowledge / commercial awareness.
  • Provide support to the Settlements team to ensure timely invoicing / payment and monitor accounts receivables where applicable.
  • Follow internal procedures and company's policies. Adhere to Trafigura's Code of Conduct / HSEC Policy and Business Principles.
  • Identify and escalate operational issues to Manager to seek guidance and providing regular updates as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
  • Significant experience in crude oil scheduling, blending, operations, or logistics; candidates should bring a track record of managing sophisticated, high-volume programs independently
  • Pipeline experience is crucial — direct experience scheduling on major Texas, Louisiana or Oklahoma systems (e.g., Longview, Seaway, Capline, Cushing, BridgeTex, Cactus, or similar) is a primary requirement
  • Vessel / marine operations experience — hands-on experience with crude marine scheduling, vessel coordination, and terminal interface
  • Terminal operations experience — familiarity with custody transfer, tank management, and terminal coordination workflows
  • Strong understanding of crude oil logistics across the full trade lifecycle, from nomination through settlement
  • Able to interpret the operational requirements of each contract, can review and comment on operational aspects of same if requested. Understanding of basic legal framework supporting oil contracts.
  • Basic understanding of relevant petroleum specifications and related ASTM Methods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • West Texas / Permian Basin pipeline experience (e.g., Permian Express, Cactus II, EPIC, Gray Oak) — a meaningful plus
  • Crude blending experience — knowledge of blend economics, quality management, and specification compliance
  • Experience working within a major trading house or integrated energy company
  • Familiarity with scheduling and CTRM systems used in crude operations
  • Prior team lead or supervisory experience, with the ability to manage and develop junior operators.
  • Experience in the NYMEX futures obligations.
What We're Looking For

Beyond technical qualifications, we are looking for someone who:

  • Operates with a high degree of ownership and accountability in a fast-paced trading environment
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with traders, counterparties, and external service providers
  • Manages competing priorities without losing precision or attention to detail
  • Brings a collaborative mentality and the ability to build strong working relationships across internal and external stakeholders
  • Is comfortable with ambiguity and can make sound operational decisions under time pressure
