  • Adapt on the Fly: Modify teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students when an unexpected vacancy arises.
  • Ensure Safety: Supervise students closely in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and during recess or dismissal.

2. Building Support & Flexibility
  • Provide Daily Versatility: Report to the main office each morning ready to accept that day's assignment, which may change based on emerging building needs.
  • Support Student Intervention: When not filling a teacher absence, pull small groups of students for reading/math remediation or enrichment as directed by instructional coaches or administration.
  • Assist Staff: Provide co-teaching support, assist with testing accommodations, or help with administrative tasks during periods without direct classroom coverage.

3. Professionalism & Communication
  • Leave Detailed Reports: Provide clear, constructive written feedback for the returning classroom teacher regarding lesson progress and student behavior.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with grade-level teams, special education staff, and school leadership to support student success.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Respect and maintain the confidentiality of student records and personal information.

  • Certification: Valid State Substitute Teaching License or Teaching Certificate (or the ability to obtain one prior to start date).
  • Flexibility: Exceptional adaptability and a willingness to teach different subjects and grade levels daily.
  • Classroom Management: Strong ability to build quick rapport with students and manage classroom dynamics effectively.
