Location: Remote, USA

Job Description

Responsible for working with both HSB and Munich Re Underwriters to support profitable underwriting, by delivering timely and targeted account evaluations in high risk occupancies. The Principal Specialist will apply advanced technical knowledge and experience to provide detailed risk evaluations of an account by interpreting factors such as design, condition, operations, maintenance, and human elements. The Principal Specialist will determine how to improve/manage the risk through account engineering, loss control initiatives and consultative risk control engineering services.

Oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering guidelines on multiple high risk occupanices. Provides training and leadership to other members of the High Risk Group, loss control engineering, and underwriting.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline is preferred, and can be counted for 5 years of experience
  • 15+ years of experience in operations, maintenance, inspection, insurance engineering, and/or repairs of process equipment associated with high value/risk occupancies such as power generation, primary metals, mining, pulp & paper, sugar, or glass
  • 5+ years experience leading/managing personnel and/or major equipment repair/installation projects as part of the experience noted above is preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of the machinery, operations, repair timelines, and process flow for multiple high risk occupancies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Self-starter; able to work with limited supervision and manage competing priorities.
  • Understanding of insurance industry and underwriting terms
  • Strong presentation and training skills
