Tooling Engineer (Manufacturing Engineer)


Position Summary

Under limited direction, has technical ownership of tooling used to manufacture products for various customers while supporting Hanwha Materials Savannah to achieve established processing and financial targets.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Develop, modify, improve and troubleshoot the processes associated with the design and fabrication of tooling supporting closed die forging operations.
  • Track performance of tooling for specific products and materials as a function of conditions of use.
  • Tracks wear of tooling to proactively maintain inventory and manage cost.
  • Supports operations with technical guidance associated with inspection and repair of tooling.
  • Develop, oversee and control budgets associated with inspection and repair of tooling.
  • Initiate and control cost reduction projects to achieve targets established by the business unit.
  • Use 3D drafting software to design tooling and communicate plans.
  • Release hardware for production utilizing processes that are designed to meet or exceed technical requirements as specified on purchase orders, blueprints, specifications or other related documents.
  • Review of new revised technical (material, process, quality) specifications, as necessary.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, IT, Design or related field) from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience in manufacturing.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verifcation of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year or more experience in Aerospace forging of titanium and/or nickel based superalloys, other metalworking, or processing of steels.
  • One (1) year or more experience with working knowledge of Quality systems and specification.
  • One (1) year or more project management experience
  • Blackbelt or Greenbelt certification preferred.

  • Language skills – Must have excellent communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management and/or various groups.
  • Mathematical Skills – Ability to perform math supporting engineering decisions. Ability to interpret graphs and analyze temperature data and Gantt charts.
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills – Proficiency with Microsoft Office required. Knowledge of QPulse or Tropos a plus.
