Job description

Position Overview

A large, integrated healthcare system is seeking a skilled Surgical Technician to support a high-volume cardiovascular surgery program. The ideal candidate brings solid scrub experience in open-heart and vascular cases and thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity OR environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scrub for cardiovascular surgical procedures including open-heart, vascular, and thoracic cases
  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instrument trays, and surgical supplies prior to each case
  • Pass instruments and anticipate surgeon needs throughout procedures
  • Perform accurate sponge, sharps, and instrument counts in coordination with the circulating RN
  • Operate and assist with cardiovascular surgical equipment including perfusion setups
  • Assist with room turnover, equipment decontamination, and next-case preparation
  • Maintain compliance with infection control, AORN standards, and facility safety policies
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) credential required or eligible
  • Minimum 1 year of cardiovascular or cardiothoracic OR scrub experience
  • Proficiency with cardiovascular instrumentation and related surgical equipment
  • Ability to work onsite in the Portland, OR area on a full-time, permanent basis
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of open-heart or vascular surgery scrub experience
  • Experience with robotic-assisted cardiac or thoracic procedures
  • Familiarity with heart-lung bypass machine setup and IABP
  • Current BLS certification
