MercyOne Genesis is seeking a highly motivated Pathology Assistant to join our collaborative and well-established pathology team. This role plays a critical part in supporting diagnostic services through surgical pathology, working closely with board-certified pathologists in a high-quality, patient-focused environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Pathology Assistant who enjoys a mix of grossing, and advanced laboratory procedures, with rare autopsy support in a collegial and team-oriented setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examination and description of surgical specimens
  • Prepare and submit tissue for light microscopy and special studies
  • Coordinate and obtain specimens for advanced testing (e.g., flow cytometry, cytogenetics, cultures, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy)
  • Collaborate with pathologists to determine appropriate special techniques (e.g., tumor triage, frozen sections, toxicology, perfusion, etc.)
  • Ensure accurate specimen accessioning and documentation
  • Obtain relevant clinical history and medical records for case review
  • Maintain and follow surgical pathology protocols
  • Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies
  • Support organ/tissue procurement and research requests as needed
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and assist with CAP and Joint Commission inspections
  • Ensure cleanliness and readiness of grossing suites

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathology Assistant program required
  • ASCP certification (or eligible) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of anatomic pathology techniques and procedures
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
