Job description

HOUSEKEEPER

McLean, Virginia

Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM | Immediate Start

$50–$55 Per Hour | Comprehensive Benefits Package

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced, polished Housekeeper who arrives with fully established technique and a demonstrated background in large, high-end private residences. This person plans their day thoughtfully and efficiently, completing all responsibilities — including timing laundry and rotating tasks throughout the day — by the close of the workday. They read the room naturally: adjusting their presence and pace based on what the household needs in any given moment.

The right candidate does not require direction on the basics. They bring professional confidence, a quiet and composed manner, and the kind of attention to detail that maintains a home of this caliber without constant oversight.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Housekeeping

  • Thorough daily cleaning throughout the residence, including dusting, vacuuming, bathroom care, and floor  maintenance
  • Rotating deep cleans on a scheduled basis, ensuring all areas of the home receive consistent, detailed attention
  • Careful stewardship of furniture, fixtures, metalwork, upholstery, houseplants, and specialty surfaces — including  hardwood floors and fine finishes
  • Trash, recycling, and waste removal on a daily basis
  • Daily cat care: litter box maintenance and refreshing food and water bowls

Laundry & Linens

  • Launder, iron, fold, and distribute household and personal items with care, including fine linens and specialty fabrics
  • Coordinate dry cleaning pickups and returns; manage delicate or specialty garment care with appropriate handling
  • Make and turn down beds as needed, maintaining impeccable presentation throughout

Household Standards

  • Use only the household's approved cleaning products — a focused list centered on water- and vinegar-based  solutions; no substitutions
  • Maintain consistent order throughout the home at all times; all items returned to their designated place as a matter of  daily practice
  • Assist with occasional events and dinner party preparation as needed

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The right person for this role brings a minimum of five years of professional housekeeping experience in large, staffed  private homes. They are punctual, reliable, and exceptionally organized — someone who takes genuine pride in an  immaculately kept home and brings a consistently positive, service-oriented energy to the household.

They communicate clearly, take direction gracefully, and follow through without needing reminders. They are a true team  player: collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable working alongside a House Manager and other household staff in a  coordinated, respectful way.

CULINARY SKILLS

While not a hard requirement for this role, basic cooking skills are a meaningful bonus. This household favors simple, clean, organic meals with minimal seasoning — think well-prepared salmon, roasted chicken, fresh salads, and the like. A  Housekeeper who is comfortable and confident in the kitchen, able to follow a recipe or prepare a straightforward meal when needed, brings genuine added value to the household.

Candidates with any culinary background — formal or informal — are warmly encouraged to note this when applying. It will  be viewed favorably.

HOUSEHOLD ENVIRONMENT

This is a fragrance-free household. All household members and staff are asked to refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or scented personal care products while on the property. Cleaning products used throughout the home are non-toxic and largely scent-free — primarily water- and vinegar-based formulations. Candidates must be fully comfortable operating within these parameters and genuinely willing to align their personal care routines accordingly. This is a non-negotiable aspect of the role.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • 5+ years of professional housekeeping experience in large, staffed private residences
  • Arrives with fully established housekeeping technique — requires no instruction on foundational skills
  • Punctual, organized, and highly reliable with exceptional attention to detail
  • Collaborative team player with a genuinely positive, service-oriented attitude
  • Clear, professional communicator who takes direction well and follows through without reminders
  • Comfortable working alongside other household staff and reporting to a House Manager
  • Ability to perform full-time, active physical work throughout a large private residence
  • Comfortable with reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying typical household items as part of daily responsibilities
  • Three professional references required
  • No smoking/vaping
  • Willingness to complete a comprehensive background check
  • Valid driver's license
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
