Job description

Buchalter LLP has an opening for a Research Analyst in the Research & Information Services Department. This position conducts in-depth reference and research across various practice areas of law and business, and supports the Firmโ€™s business development efforts. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, service-oriented, and highly skilled at delivering accurate, actionable research in a fast-paced professional environment. The role requires sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Perform high-level, in-depth research and analysis in legal, business, and other subjects using appropriate electronic resources.
  • Complete reference and research requests quickly, accurately and thoroughly.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and synthesize complex information from multiple sources to deliver clear, concise, and actionable intelligence that supports attorneys and staff in legal strategy, business planning, and informed decision-making.
  • Set up litigation, docket, legislative, regulatory, news and business alerts across various platforms to meet the information needs of attorneys and clients.
  • Evaluate the scope, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness of research resources and select the optimal resources for specific research requests.
  • Adhere to established procedures for managing requests and promptly bill for time spent on research utilizing the firmโ€™s billing software.
  • Support the Firmโ€™s use of research databases by coordinating training sessions and conducting orientations for new attorneys and paralegals.
  • Maintain awareness of current legal and business research materials, techniques, strategies and resources to build research skills in new areas of the law and emerging technologies, as well as monitor legal developments that impact the Firmโ€™s practice areas.
  • Provide coverage in the event of other department staff member absences.
  • Work on special projects or any other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Library and Information Science and/or J.D. from accredited institution preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of law firm experience.
  • Strong skills conducting complex research and a deep understanding of research strategies, legal concepts and terminology and basic knowledge of litigation and transactional practices.
  • Ability to conduct effective research in unfamiliar subject areas, industries, practice areas, and jurisdictions as needed.
  • Extensive experience using research databases such as Lexis, Westlaw, Practical Law, Bloomberg, VitalLaw, S&P Capital IQ and Intelligize, with an ability to learn new platforms quickly.
  • Responsive and service-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and shifting priorities with accuracy and minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Confident and approachable manner when communicating with all levels at the firm.
  • Self-motivated and energetic, with a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within and across departments.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning, professional growth, and identifying opportunities to improve knowledge, processes, and service delivery.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and judgment skills, with the ability to remain calm and effective in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships across departments, practice groups, offices, and with vendors and other external contacts.

Buchalter LLP offers a competitive salary, 401K, profit sharing and a full benefits package.

California: Pay Scale: The reasonably expected pay scale for this position is $80,000 to $110,000 per year. This is an employer estimate and the salary offered within that range, and the potential for bonus and bonus amount, will depend on candidateโ€™s years of practice, experience and performance.
