Job description

Position Summary:

The Environmental Service Technician maintains environmental and infection control standards within established policies and procedures of the health care center. The position performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the facility. The position distributes and tracks clean linens to user departments and maintains stock levels on nursing floors. The position follows standard practices and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Dusts furniture, woodwork and equipment and dust-mops floors. Polishes and cleans fixtures in rooms and bathrooms. 
  2. Operates mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, snow blowers, shampooers and related environmental service equipment. 
  3. Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using specified bags or containers. 
  4. Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required. 
  5. Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares rooms for new occupants; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms. 
  6. Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors and walls of bathrooms. 
  7. Makes supply packs for departments and puts linen stacks in carts for distribution. Takes supply requests and delivers them. 
  8. Delivers linens to departments according to pre-established par levels and schedules. Distributes emergency supplies as needed. 
  9. Keeps records of linen distribution by department; checks floor linens supplies and lists linen use by department. 
  10. Keeps work areas neat and orderly, cleans equipment and assists with other cleaning duties as assigned. 
  11. Assists with evacuations, when needed.
  12. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
