Summary

Ensure the safe and timely delivery of live chicks while playing a critical role in supporting Perdue's poultry operations. As a Chick Delivery Driver, you will operate tractor-trailer combinations to transport live animals between hatcheries, company facilities, vendor locations, and grower farms while ensuring every load is handled with the highest standards of safety, animal welfare, and efficiency. You will be responsible for loading, unloading, and dispersing chicks using Moffett equipment, maintaining clean and well-kept equipment, and representing the Perdue brand with professionalism at every stop. This role is ideal for a safety-focused, dependable driver who enjoys working independently, takes pride in delivering exceptional service, and thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where every delivery directly supports the success of our operations.

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maneuver and deliver or backhaul truckloads of animals, products, and materials to Company facilities, farms, plants, customers, and distributors as assigned.
  • Perform proper pre-trip and post-trip inspections of chick delivery trailers to support animal welfare.
  • Observe and maintain all Department of Transportation requirements regarding hours of service, logbooks, vehicle inspections, load inspections, and load securement.
  • Utilize electronic logging devices, paper logs when needed, and onboard vehicle tracking systems efficiently.
  • Operate tractors and trailers in a legal and safe manner consistent with all federal, state, local, and Company requirements.
  • Utilize all onboard safety features.
  • Complete and submit manifests, bills of lading, proof of delivery documents, pay envelopes, overage reports, shortage reports, damage claims, and trip reports.
  • Load and unload animals, Moffett equipment, trays, and products on and off trailers.
  • Unload animals at farms and disperse animals into barns using the Moffett.
  • Clean trailers and trays before and after use and as needed to meet Company requirements.
  • Maintain seal integrity and report accurate verified counts and conditions of products and animals during deliveries.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of over-the-road tractor-trailer driving experience with chick delivery and/or refrigerated trailers.
  • Or 1 year of over-the-road driving experience with a degree from an accredited driving school.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver License.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with chick delivery and/or refrigerated trailers.
  • Strong communication skills.

 

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

  • Able to drive a tractor with a trailer.
  • Able to remain seated for extended periods up to Department of Transportation limits.
  • Able to withstand bouncing and vibration from truck and road conditions.
  • Able to lift up to 100 pounds while loading and unloading animals and products.
  • Able to operate, load, and unload a Moffett.
  • Exposed to dust, animal excrement, pollen, and other allergens.
  • Exposed to fuel, oil spills, and other chemicals.
  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from 0°F to 100°F, humidity ranging from 0% to 100%, and noise levels from 50 dB to 100 dB.
  • Required to travel to customers, distributors, Company facilities, farms, and other remote locations and may remain away from home for periods of time.
