Clinical Dietitian (Per Diem - Weekends & Holidays)

Make a Difference Every Shift.San Gabriel Valley Medical Center is seeking a compassionate, clinically skilled Clinical Dietitian to join our Nutrition Services team on a Per Diem basis. This position is ideal for a Registered Dietitian who is passionate about patient care, enjoys working in a fast-paced acute care environment, and thrives as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Clinical Dietitian plays a critical role in improving patient outcomes through evidence-based nutrition interventions, patient education, and collaboration with physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments.

Position Summary

The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and monitoring nutrition care for hospitalized patients. This position provides nutrition counseling, participates in interdisciplinary care planning, completes clinical documentation, and supports quality patient care initiatives throughout the hospital.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess nutritional status and identify patients at nutritional risk.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans.
  • Complete nutrition assessments, reassessments, and clinical charting in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Provide nutrition counseling and education to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, case management, speech therapy, pharmacy, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds and meetings as appropriate.
  • Review laboratory values, medications, and medical histories to support nutrition recommendations.
  • Monitor patient progress and revise nutrition interventions as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state, and hospital requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Support food service operations and collaborate with kitchen staff regarding patient nutritional needs and special diets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Patient Population

May provide nutrition care services for ICU, Telemetry, Medical/Surgical, Sub-Acute, Psychiatric, Adult, and Geriatric patient populations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum: B.S. or B.A. Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.
  • Dietetic internship in an approved institution.
  • Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
  • RD-eligible candidates may be considered with the provision of passing the registration examination within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of infection control, patient safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to operate hospital order entry systems (CPSI, CBORD) and Microsoft Office applications.
