Position Summary
Responsible for assisting with professional nursing care for SIH patients.
Education
Graduate of LPN Program or Registered Nurse


Licenses and Certification
Current Illinois Licensed Practical Nurse license or Registered Nurse
CPR Certification


Experience and Skills
Technical Experience: N/A

Role Specific Responsibilities
Conduct a focused nursing assessment and contribute to the ongoing comprehensive nursing assessment of the patient performed by the registered professional nurse
Collaborate in the development and modification of the registered professional nurse's or advanced practice registered nurse's comprehensive nursing plan of care for all types of patients
Implement aspects of the plan of care
Participate in health teaching and counseling to promote, attain, and maintain the optimum health level of patients
Serve as an advocate for the patient by communicating and collaborating with other health service personnel
Participate in the evaluation of patient responses to interventions
Communicate and collaborate with other health professionals
Provide input into the development of policies and procedures to support patient safety
Evaluates patient progress and reports changes to RN, supervisor and/or physician.
Complete, accurate, and timely documentation in patient medical record
Timely completion of required education, competencies, and licensure.

Applicable to Perioperative service line LPN's in OR/Procedure Room
Assists the physician with procedures.
Assists with cleaning, decontaminating, sterilization and storage of equipment and instruments.
Assists in transportation and positioning of patients
Assists in assembling and dismantling of tables and instruments before and after procedure
Prepares patient and room for the planned surgical procedures.
Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures
Completes skin preparation and draping
Assist Surgeon with gowning and gloving

Assist surgeon by passing instruments and suture
Assists in maintaining correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges
Applies dressings and bandages as needed
Assists in identifying, collecting, and caring for specimens.
Decontaminates instruments (point of use cleaning), supplies and equipment according to established policies and procedures; handles and stores instruments, equipment and supplies appropriately
Aids in the efficient turnover of the operating room for next cases
Monitors and restocks supplies
