Job description

Ultrasound Tech - Per Diem

In lieu of benefits due to "per diem" status, 15% will be added to the hourly rate. Per diem employees are offered work on an "as-needed" basis.

Position Summary:

Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluation and treatment by the attending physician.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:

  • Graduate of accredited imaging based school.

Certification required:

  • Current BLS certification required.

Certification preferred:

  • ARDMS – American Registered Diagnostic Sonographer Registered or completed within 6 months of eligibility.

OR

  • ARRT – American Registry Radiologic Technologist with certification in sonography RT (R) (S).

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Ability to communicate with employees, physicians, patients and administrative staff in a courteous and professional manner.

Position Essential Functions:

Patient Care:

  • Review medical records for patient history and supporting clinical data.
  • Explain procedure to patient; provide patient care, support, comfort, safety and confidentiality.
  • Select equipment and imaging modalities, position and prep, to facilitate optimum diagnostic studies.

Ultrasound:

  • Perform all ultrasound techniques and examinations offered at this facility.
  • Display a broad knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and pathology to obtain optimal studies.
  • Select and record preliminary study results on work sheet.
  • Make pertinent measurements and label.
  • Direct study to Radiologist for interpretation.
  • Consult with Radiologist about unusual scans and assist with interpretation.
  • Provide written unofficial reports and worksheets of examination.

Reports:

  • Select and record preliminary study results on work sheet.

  • Assist physician in such procedures as needle biopsies, amniocentesis, thoracentesis and other invasive procedures as needed, maintaining sterile technique.
  • Maintain ultrasonography equipment. Recognize malfunctions and need for servicing. Ensure quality control procedures are maintained. Order department supplies.
