Histology Technician Per Diem

SUMMARY:
Prepares microscope slides of human tissue for pathological examination.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Processes, embeds, cuts, stains, and mounts specimens of human tissue.Performs special stains as required.Prepares and maintains paraffin, reagents, and other solutions and stains according to standard formulas.Cuts and stains frozen sections.Performs a variety of routine laboratory tests and procedures according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.Washes and cleans laboratory equipment and supplies such as glassware, sinks and tables in accordance with hospital standards.Sets up, calibrates, cleans and performs outline maintenance on specialized laboratory equipment.Performs all quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records.Obtains and re-file slides, blocks, and reports as is necessary.Performs Immunoperoxidase staining.Coverslips and labels as needed.Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.Performs related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of related lab experience.PREFERRED: Certified Histological Technician. ASCP.LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Certified Histological Technician (ASCP)OR completion of TMC's on-the-job Histology training programKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of lab procedures for evaluating samples.
  • Skill in following procedures and paying attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to listen and accurately interpret others' communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and apply basic algebraic concepts.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
