The per-diem role is primarily used to fill open shifts when our full-time officers take time off for one reason or another. We are strictly interested in candidates who have a considerable amount of time in their schedules.

Per-Diem Officer Requirements:

Must be available to work all shifts:

Day: 06:30 – 15:00

Evening: 14:30 – 23:00

Night: 22:30 – 07:00

*Some variable shifts may also arise

  • Weekend availability is required

  • While we understand per-diem officers may not be available every time we reach out, we do expect consistent availability and willingness to cover shifts when possible

  • Supervisors will contact you via call or text when shifts open up; a prompt response (yes or no) is appreciated

  • Work hours are not guaranteed and can vary significantly. You may be asked to cover a full week during staff absences, or go several days without being scheduled

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Receiving general direction from the Security Operations Manager will work to provide a safe and secure environment for Hospital patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing Hospital policies and by continuously watching for and the timely report of any and all safety hazards or unusual occurrences through patrol of assigned areas; furthermore the incumbent; provides protective service and response for protection of the people and property of the hospital; is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of his/her assigned shift and shift personnel.

DUTIES:

  • Conducts floor patrols and security camera monitoring within the hospital and campus buildings, giving special attention to those areas where problems have occurred. Maintains strict confidentially at all times.

  • Conducts Preliminary investigations into thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by questioning individuals involved with specific incidents. Keeps Assistant Lead and Lead Security Officer at all times.

  • Maintains all hospital issued uniforms and equipment.

  • Actively takes part in any Safety and Security quality improvement initiatives.

  • Creates safety awareness among patients, visitors and staff.

  • Responds to all non-medical codes and requests for assistance.

  • Monitors and patrols internal and external campus buildings, as well as nearby MGP locations, on foot, in vehicle and/or via security cameras; checks for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked entrances and exits, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons.

  • Provides one on one observation of behavioral patients as needed.

  • Preserves order and may act to enforce regulations and directives for the site(s) pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises.

  • Daily lock and unlock of numerous buildings on campus.

  • Responsible for employee temporary badges, including issuing and ensuring they are promptly returned.

  • Upon request, collects, logs, and secures patient valuables.

  • Collects, logs and secures lost and found items and attempts to locate owner when possible.

  • Greets and logs in Emergency Department visitors. Issues visitor badges.

  • Provides after-hour visitation escorts.

  • Monitors all campus parking lots for employee/visitor safety as well as enforces the parking policy as necessary. Investigates reports of vehicle or property damage.

  • Provides motor vehicle assist to staff and/or visitors (i.e. jump start vehicles, and lock-outs or call for service).

  • Keeps daily activity log of all activities and complete incident reports when required.

  • Demonstrates ability to quickly evaluate each situation and take appropriate action to defuse the situation and prevent injury and/or property loss.

  • Demonstrates integrity, compassion and respect when working with patients, families, visitors and staff.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to patients, families and staff by meeting the CVMC attendance expectations as outlined in the Attendance policy and departmental standards (reports to work on time, manages unscheduled time off, etc.)

  • Protects the privacy and confidentiality of patients, families, staff and the organization by creating and maintaining a secure, respectful and trusting environment.

  • Completes all required competencies, annual mandatory training requirements and adhere to the CVMC Code of Conduct as described in Policy Manager.

  • Demonstrates appropriate use of CVMC’s resources (phones, emails, internet use, photocopies, supplies, etc.)

  • Employees will perform his/her job in a safe manner as defined in any and all applicable CVMC policies specific to the job including but not limited to policies addressing: Universal precautions, Use of PPE, Safe lifting/ergonomics, Handling of hazardous materials.

  • Enforces hospital policy and notifies Lead Security Officer Lead of infractions of policy, procedure, laws and regulations as they are identified. Notifies Security Supervisor of same issue if Security Officer Lead does not correct or receive issue within a reasonable time frame. Notifies Corporate Compliance Officer of any issues that continue to be unresolved.

  • Acts as a first responder to HAZMAT incidents following CVMC procedures and the proper use of PPE.

  • All other duties as assigned or requested. **

**Marginal Function

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent- Required.

  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

  • Ability to pass extensive background investigation.

  • Ability to pass a physical- CVMC provides this service prior to start date.

  • IAHSS Security Officer, Basic Certification- a plus but not required at time of hire. Certification is required within 12 months of hire (CVMC provides on the job training and certification).

  • IAHSS Security Officer, Advanced Certification- Preferred.

  • IAHSS Security Officer, Supervisor Certification- Preferred.

  • Avade Workplace Violence Prevention Certification- a plus but not required at time of hire. Certification is required within 12 months of hire (CVMC provides on the job training and certification).

EXPERIENCE:

Prior law enforcement, security or military experience is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SPECIALSKILLS:

  • Able to understand oral and written instructions.

  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions.

  • Tolerance of high stress situations.

  • Much physical stamina (walking, lifting and physically restraining patients, etc…)

  • Must wear department issued ballistic body armor while on duty
