Our Registered Nurse is a key member of the North Star Behavioral Health Team who is responsible for delivering quality general and psychiatric nursing care to patients with emotional or psychiatric disorders. They serve actively and constructively as a member of the treatment team, supporting the organization and program philosophy of care and ensuring the safety and well-being of each patient. Shift: 12-hour shifts, minimum availability to work 3 days per month.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive Patient Assessment: Collects and analyzes data on physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs, responding to assessment calls when required.
  • Treatment Plan Development: Develops a comprehensive care outline, updates master treatment plans, special programs, and problem sheets, collaborating with the treatment team to set goals and interventions.
  • Effective Discharge Planning: Establishes individualized discharge plans tailored to the needs of patients and significant others.
  • Crisis Management: Follows correct protocols for crisis management, demonstrating skills in defusing potentially combative behaviors and distinguishing between psychotic behavior and self-control problems.
  • Medication Knowledge: Demonstrates proficiency in psychotropic medications and commonly used medications for psychiatric patients.
  • Ensuring Patient Safety and Reporting: Ensures prompt and correct adherence to orders of seclusions & restraints, conducts proper rounds and interval checks, documents them accurately, and reports problems promptly.
