Primary Focus:

The Math Coach provides instructional leadership and coaching support to ensure high-quality math intervention delivery within assigned tutoring sites. This role focuses on coaching tutors in the implementation of research-based math strategies through the TutorSmart model framework, with emphasis on data-driven instruction that drives the continuous improvement cycle in each tutoring group. The role supports intervention across the elementary and middle grades as the TutorSmart math model develops.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with tutors and school staff to create a supportive learning environment that promotes student math success.
  • Create high-quality training materials and professional development opportunities that enhance tutor effectiveness within the TutorSmart model.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions to enhance tutoring effectiveness and student math outcomes.
  • Address challenges constructively while maintaining positive working relationships and prioritizing student learning.
  • Facilitate coaching sessions with assigned teacher tutors, connecting assessment data to research-based math strategies and intervention implementation.
  • Implement research-based math strategies, lessons, and activities to help tutors engage students effectively, including lesson modeling when requested.
  • Contribute to the refinement and continuous improvement of math intervention instruments, coaching tools, and training materials as the TutorSmart math model develops and matures.
  • Work regularly with the TutorSmart Programs Team on data analysis, continuous improvement initiatives, and training development.
  • Support accurate and timely diagnostic and progress data as the basis for coaching decisions, and monitor tutoring sessions to ensure data is collected and reported to TutorSmart leadership.
Essential Functions:
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member in a remote setting.
  • Ability to relate well to people with different social, professional, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Solid time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with computers and cloud-based technologies, including word processing and spreadsheets, with the ability to learn new technologies. Experience with adaptive learning platforms and diagnostic data (such as IXL) is preferred.
  • Ability to attend monthly meetings and regular Saturday morning coaching meetings (typically 2–3 per month) as required.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and communicate information in a timely manner.
  • Able to perform the physical requirements of a remote coaching role, including talking, hearing, and sitting for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Requirements include:
  • 7–10 years of experience in math intervention at the elementary and/or middle school level, with a relevant degree in education.
  • Experience coaching other educators.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to problem solve.
  • Must meet pre-employment requirements including background check.
