CLASSIFICATION:ย Support Staff

DEPARTMENT:ย Campus Police (Student Affairs)

FLSA STATUS:ย Non-exempt

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:ย  Supervised by the Chief of Police, Office Manager, and police officers on duty.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: N/A

POSITION SUMMARY:ย The Police Dispatcher is responsible for receiving calls placed to Campus Police and dispatching campus police officers as needed.ย  In addition, this individual is responsible for other duties as assigned by the Chief, Office Manager or Captain.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive incoming calls from campus/off campus.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Monitor alarms received at Campus Police Headquarters and dispatch Police, EMS or Fire.
  • Enter relative information into the computer aided dispatch system.
  • Dispatch Police, EMS or Fire via radio as needed.
  • Notifies FMPC on-call staff for facilities related matters.
  • Notifies Student Affairs on-call staff per Campus Police/Student Affairs protocol for student involved matters.
  • Complete other reports as needed.
  • Enter required data including parking ticket and charges.
  • Assist in the issuance of new or replacement student IDs.
  • ย Assist in troubleshooting card access issues and re-set card access for locations on campus.
  • ย Review the special events book and verify card access is set accordingly if required.
  • ย Issue temporary parking passes for visitors.
  • ย Work extended shifts when required.
  • ย Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:ย 

  • A high school diploma or equivalency is required.ย 
  • Must have knowledge of the geographical locations on campus and be able to communicate these locations to the appropriate individuals.ย ย 
  • Previous use of a 2-way police radio is preferred but not necessary.ย 
  • The position demands excellent organizational skills as well as superior interpersonal skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work closely with all constituencies of the College including students, staff and faculty, in addition to the general public.ย 
  • Computer literacy as well as experience with Microsoft Office, particularly database applications, word processing and spreadsheets is essential.ย 
  • Physical requirements include the ability to sit at a desk and answer telephones, with very occasional stretching to reach logbooks in overhead shelves.ย  Phone answering does not prevent standing, stretching, or walking.ย
