Job description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Responsible for the safe transportation of patients to and from the center for appointments and/or procedures in a safe and courteous manner. Abides by safe driving practices and acts in accordance with local traffic regulations, applicable transportation regulations, speed limits, and road and weather conditions.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the safe transportation of patients to and from our center for appointments and procedures in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Adheres to safe driving practices, applicable transportation regulations, obeying local traffic regulations and vehicle speeds in accordance with the posted limits, and road and weather conditions.
  • Maintains vehicle in a safe operating condition and reports observations and concerns using appropriate processes.
  • Contact patients to confirm pick up times and determines the most efficient route to pick up and drop off patients
  • Ability to accurately document and maintain records of patient transportation
  • Assists with clerical duties within the center as directed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Day to day work includes driving, patient transport and interaction with patients, facility staff and physicians.
  • The position provides direct patient care that regularly involves lifting and moving of patients.
  • The position requires frequent prolonged periods of sitting and the employee must be able to bend over. The employee may occasionally be required to move, with assistance, patients and equipment of up to 200 lbs. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may provide assistance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently work in outside weather conditions, and may occasionally be exposed to hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions native to the area.
  • The facility work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. May be exposed to infectious, contagious diseases/materials.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Must possess a valid and current driver's license in good standing.
  • Must have a clean driving record (no DUI, suspensions, or at fault accidents) in the past five years.
  • Must have a current CPR certification.
  • Two years of experience with patient transportation preferred.
  • Must meet any additional state-specific qualifications
