Familiarity with pediatric-specific EHRs, medication administration systems, and certifications like PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) are typically required. Excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to quickly build rapport with children and families distinguish outstanding nurses in this role. How does working as a Per Diem Pediatric RN differ from a full-time pediatric nursing position in terms of scheduling and team integration?

As a Per Diem Pediatric RN, you have more flexibility in choosing your shifts, which can make it easier to balance personal commitments. However, this often means working irregular hours, including nights, weekends, or holidays, depending on the facility’s needs. While you may not be as deeply embedded in a single team as a full-time nurse, strong communication skills are vital for quickly adapting to different units and collaborating effectively with various healthcare professionals. This role allows you to gain experience in diverse pediatric settings, which can broaden your clinical skills and expand your professional network.
