Survey & 3D Scanning Tech (Oil & Gas,Travel Role)

Environmental Intellect

Job description

Reality Capture | Oil & Gas | Petrochemical | 80–90% Travel

Welcome to Environmental Intellect (Ei)—where we take massive, complicated industrial facilities and turn them into incredibly detailed digital environments.

We're a remote-first, globe-trotting crew of field experts, survey pros, CAD gurus, engineers, software developers, and problem-solvers—and we're looking for another adventurer to join the team.

We're hiring a Survey & 3D Scanning Technician to travel to Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, and industrial facilities and capture the real world using survey equipment, mobile mapping systems, and 3D laser scanners.

If you've worked as a Survey Rodman, Instrument Operator, Survey Technician, Reality Capture Technician, or 3D Scanner, or just have Industrial or Plant Experience, we want to hear from you.

And yes—we really mean travel. This role is approximately 80–90% travel.

Also, there is an element of working at height and very occasionally, working offshore.

If airports, hard hats, steel toed boots, cool technology, and giant industrial facilities sound better than sitting behind the same desk every day... keep reading.

What You'll Do

Your mission is pretty simple:

Capture the facility. Capture it accurately. And make sure we have what we need before you leave.

You'll work alongside Ei's Reality Capture team to collect accurate spatial data that becomes the foundation of our Digital Twin technology.

You may:

  • Establish and work from survey control, benchmarks, traverses, control loops, and coordinate systems.
  • Operate mobile 3D scanning systems, including the NavVis VLX.
  • Set up and operate static terrestrial laser scanners.
  • Plan scanning routes and capture strategies for complex industrial environments.
  • Perform field QA/QC to identify gaps or issues before leaving the site.
  • Process, register, and review reality capture and point cloud data.
  • Collaborate with Ei's CAD, engineering, implementation, and software teams.

Because flying back across the country or the world to capture the one area everyone missed isn't nearly as fun as it sounds.

Survey People — We're Looking at You

You don't need to be a 3D scanning expert on Day One.

If you come from the survey world, that's an excellent foundation for what we do.

We're especially interested in experience with:

  • Survey control and benchmarks
  • Traversing and control loops
  • GPS and level loops
  • Coordinate systems
  • Total stations and field data collection
  • Accuracy, precision, and QA/QC

If you understand that "close enough" isn't actually close enough, you're speaking our language.

Wait... You Fly Drones Too?

Now you've really got our attention.

Drone experience isn't required, but it's a big plus as we continue expanding the ways we capture industrial facilities.

We'd love to hear about experience with:

  • FAA Part 107 certification or commercial UAS operations.
  • Industrial, infrastructure, mapping, or inspection flights.
  • Photogrammetry, aerial mapping, orthomosaics, or 3D reconstruction.
  • Using survey/ground control with drone data.
  • Integrating aerial data with terrestrial scanning or point clouds.
  • Planning safe missions around industrial structures, obstacles, airspace, and site restrictions.

If you know how survey + scanning + drones can work together to capture a facility, definitely tell us about it.

 What We're Looking For

Technical skills matter, but so does how you work.

You'll thrive here if you're:

  • Curious and excited to learn new technology.
  • Team-first
