Position Overview
This opportunity is suited to an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Engineer II looking to contribute to a technically demanding engineering environment. The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer II will support discipline engineering activities to help ensure work is delivered in line with project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements. This Instrumentation and Controls Engineer II position offers the chance to work on critical engineering activities that influence reliability, control performance, and maintenance strategy. The role is well suited to a technically strong Instrumentation and Controls Engineer II who can combine engineering judgement with clear communication and collaboration across project teams.
Role Context
This role sits within a refinery and chemical complex environment. The position supports project-related discipline engineering and design activities, working alongside the project team and other company functions to maintain progress, technical quality, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and comment on discipline engineering work performed internally and by contractors and subcontractors to support compliance with project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate execution of discipline engineering and design activities aligned with project goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and timely communication with the project team and other company functions regarding engineering activities, progress, and technical issues.
  • Analyse maintenance records to assess instrument failure rates, availability and reliability, failure modes, and programme effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute process control surveillance activities to support performance and stability.
  • Collect, review, and trend process data to identify performance issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Carry out process control philosophy and stability reviews, including control logic updates and loop tuning.
  • Conduct criticality assessments and develop equipment strategies and maintenance plans for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Support engineering decisions with consideration of Safety Integrity Level assessment, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer recommendations.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, a related engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Essential: Strong knowledge of discipline design standards, specifications, codes, and relevant safety criteria.
  • Essential: Experience in the selection, application, and ISA data sheet specification of pressure, temperature, and level instrumentation, control valves, shutdown valves, and fire and gas detection systems.
  • Essential: Ability to analyse technical and maintenance data to support reliability, control, and maintenance strategy decisions.
