Job Description

The Automation Technician installs, maintains, and troubleshoots automated industrial systems, focusing on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and instrumentation components. This role works with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, sensors, and motor controls to ensure reliable and efficient operation of automation equipment. The technician uses diagnostic tools, software, and electrical schematics to identify and resolve issues, perform preventive maintenance, and support ongoing construction and industrial projects.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic issues on automated equipment using multimeters, diagnostic software, and other electronic measurement devices.
  • Modify, test, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to support system performance and process changes.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on robotics, sensors, motors, and other automated machinery to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Interpret and work from complex electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to trace circuit faults and implement corrective actions.
  • Install, configure, and commission automation components, including instrumentation, motor controls, and industrial network devices.
  • Calibrate instrumentation and control devices to ensure accurate measurement, reliable operation, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and electronic measurement equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes safely and effectively.
  • Support industrial construction activities in both indoor and outdoor environments, ensuring automation systems are integrated according to project requirements.
  • Collaborate with other technical personnel to resolve system issues, optimize performance, and document repairs and modifications.
  • Follow established safety procedures and best practices while working with electrical systems, industrial equipment, and construction environments.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems in an industrial or construction environment.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, including modifying, testing, and troubleshooting PLC logic and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC electrical theory and its application to industrial automation and motor control systems.
  • Experience with motor control systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of robotics, sensors, and automated machinery used in industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with industrial networks such as Profibus and Ethernet/IP.
  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and electronic measurement devices including multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Background in instrumentation, control (I&C), calibration, and industrial automation.
  • Ability to perform installation, repair, and maintenance tasks with a high level of technical accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in industrial construction environments, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Comfort working on OCIP (Owner Controlled Insurance Program) projects.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including a Monday–Thursday 10-hour shift and an 8-hour Friday, with schedule subject to change based on project needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing and resolving automation issues.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams on large industrial projects.
  • Commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a safe work area around high-voltage and moving equipment.

Why Work Here?

Join a project-driven environment that rewards technical expertise and dedication with competitive compensation structures and per diem opportunities. You will work on complex industrial automation and construction projects that offer variety, challenge, and the chance to grow your skills with advanced technologies. The schedule provides predictable full-time hours, while the project setting encourages teamwork, professional development, and continuous learning in the field of automation and controls.

Work Environment
