Job description

LOCATION OF POSITION: Fairport NY 14450; Deaf Education/Vision
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Per Diem for the 2026-2027 School Yearย 
STARTING DATE:ย  As Needs Present
SALARY RANGE:ย $21.50 per hour
DUTIES:
ย 1. Work one-to-one assisting students with the skills necessary to successfully participate in the classroom. This includes but is not limited to the following: attending to instruction, supporting life-skills development, following classroom routines, and meeting behavioral expectations.
ย 2. Act as a language model working to develop student's expressive and receptive use of signed language.
ย 3. Facilitate spoken and signed communication between the student and others during the school day. May require basic interpreting for students and staff when necessary.
ย 4. Assist with classroom management by monitoring individual student behavior and implementing positive behavior management strategies supported by the program.
ย 5. Ride the school bus with students and support students in community-based learning activities (work experience, field trips, vocational training). May be required to transport self in personal vehicle to activities held off campus.
ย 6. Assist students with swimming in therapeutic and/or traditional chlorinated pool.
ย 7. Assist in self-help, toileting and personal care activities, and mobility for students with disabilities.
ย 8. Maintain diplomatic working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and other support personnel.
ย 9. Perform other duties related to specific programs.
QUALIFICATIONS: ย 
1. High School Graduate: Associate Degree preferred.
2. Intermediate to advanced sign language skills.
3. Basic interpreting skills.
4. Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training preferred.
5. Experience in support service programs with deaf/hard of hearing or special education programs preferred.
6. Desire to work with students with disabilities.
7. Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation).
