The People Operations Manager is responsible for the operational excellence, compliance, and infrastructure of the People & Culture function. Reporting to the Vice President of People & Culture, this role partners closely with leaders across the organization to ensure people processes are efficient, scalable, compliant, and aligned with supporting the business strategy.

This individual serves as a trusted advisor on employment practices, policy administration, employee relations processes, and people operations. They oversee critical programs including compliance, benefits administration, workers' compensation, leave administration, offboarding, immigration coordination, HR systems, and policy management.

The ideal candidate thrives in a growing environment, brings sound judgment and strong business acumen, and enjoys building structure, improving processes, and leveraging technology to make work better.

Key Responsibilities People Operations Leadership
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the People & Culture function.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve people processes across the employee lifecycle.
  • Ensure consistency, efficiency, and scalability of people programs and operational practices.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to address operational people matters and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, workflows, and operating procedures that support organizational growth.
Compliance & Employment Practices
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, with particular focus on Ohio and New York.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory changes and recommend updates to policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Oversee employment records, audits, reporting requirements, and documentation standards.
  • Partner with legal counsel and external advisors on employment-related matters as needed.
Employee Relations & Investigations
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and leaders on employee relations matters, investigations, and corrective action processes.
  • Provide guidance on investigation strategy, documentation standards, risk assessment, and consistency of outcomes.
  • Support leaders in interpreting policies and addressing workplace concerns.
  • Help ensure employee matters are handled fairly, consistently, and in alignment with company values and legal requirements.
Policy & Handbook Management
  • Own the employee handbook and related employment policies.
  • Lead policy creation, maintenance, communication, and implementation.
  • Ensure policies remain current, practical, legally compliant, and aligned with business needs.
Benefits Administration
  • Lead the administration of company benefit programs through oversight of benefits processes and team members responsible for benefits administration.
  • Partner with vendors, brokers, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable benefits regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Support annual enrollment activities, process improvements, and team member education efforts.
Workers' Compensation, Leave & Immigration
  • Serve as the People team lead for workers' compensation administration and case management.
  • Oversee leave administration processes, including compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Coordinate employment-based immigration matters with outside counsel, business leaders, and affected team members.
  • Ensure documentation, timelines, and regulatory requirements are effectively managed.
Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Design and oversee onboarding and offboarding programs and processes.
  • Ensure a positive and consistent team member experience while maintaining compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner with hiring managers, Talent Acquisition, Payroll, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth transitions.
    • Support offer letter administration and hiring-related workflows.
    • Partner with Talent Acquisition on process improvements, systems enhancements, and operational efficiencies.
    • Help ensure a seamless candidate-to-employee transition experience.
    • Contribute to recruiting process evolution while not directly owning recruiting strategy or recruiting outcomes.
HR Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement
  • Serve as a key owner of HR systems, data integrity, workflows, and operational reporting.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful people metrics, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Lead cross-functional people initiatives and process improvement projects.
Technology, Automation & AI
  • Embrace emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to improve productivity, decision making, and team member experience.
  • Actively identify opportunities to automate repetitive work and simplify complex processes.
  • Challenge existing ways of working and leverage technology to create scalable solutions.
  • Ensure responsible use of technology while maintaining confidentiality, compliance, and data integrity.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources , Business, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive Human Resources or People Operations experience.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting employee relations matters and workplace investigations.
  • Experience with workers' compensation, leave administration, policy management, and compliance programs.
  • Experience overseeing benefits administration.
  • Experience partnering with leaders across multiple functions and levels of the organization.
  • Strong project management, organization, and process improvement skills.
  • Experience working within HRIS platforms and people systems.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
