Position Title: Associate Actuary II

Position Location: 1201 Louisiana Street, suite 2900, Houston, TX 77002

Salary: $148,629.18 -$234,400.00 per year

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Summary of Duties:

  • Analyze statistical data, such as mortality, accident, sickness, disability, and retirement rates and construct probability tables to forecast risk and liability for payment of future benefits.
  • Apply fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses in accordance with the “CAS code of Professional Conduct” and the Actuarial Standards of Practice.
  • Support the core actuarial functions (i.e. Pricing, reserving, modeling, etc.) responsible for ensuring profitability, growth, and the financial strength of the organization.
  • Prepare and presents summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to Home Office and Field management, other American National departments, consultants, reinsurers, and regulators.
  • Complete processes and improves methods for performing and documenting actuarial analyses promptly and accurately.
  • Train less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses.

Education requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or closely related field.

Experience requirements: 5 years of experience in actuarial analysis.

Special Skills or Other Requirements: Must have experience with each of the following:

  • Passing 4 actuarial examinations.
  • Pricing and sensitivity analysis using actuarial platforms such as AXIS.
  • Experience within the Canadian Pension Risk Transfer market.
  • Compute benefits, QDROs, COLAs, and other pension plan specific formulas using Excel.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing complex pension plan benefit provisions.
