Shift: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

 

Join the Robert Young Center as a Peer Recovery Specialist! Use your lived experience in recovery to support adults with severe mental illness by providing trauma-informed, community-based peer support, case management, crisis intervention, and connections to community resources that empower individuals on their recovery journey.

This community-based position serves clients throughout the five Iowa CCBHC counties: Scott, Muscatine, Clinton, Cedar, and Jackson. Candidates who reside in Scott or Muscatine County are preferred, as office space is available in these locations and the majority of clients are served there

  • Use lived experience in recovery to provide peer support, mentorship, and advocacy for adults with behavioral health needs.
  • Build trusting relationships through community outreach, individual and group support, and by empowering clients to achieve their recovery goals.
  • Connect clients with behavioral health services, community resources, housing, transportation, benefits, and other essential supports.
  • Respond to crisis situations, provide emotional support, and promote resilience, self-advocacy, and overall wellness.
  • Assist with developing life skills, coping strategies, and Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) to encourage long-term recovery.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, community partners, and healthcare providers.
  • Deliver compassionate, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented care while modeling hope, wellness, and the principles of recovery.

Education:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an approved Peer Recovery Support Training program required within six months of hire.

Experience:

  • Lived experience with a substance use, mental health, or behavioral health condition and currently in recovery.
  • Willingness to appropriately share lived experience in a professional, supportive manner to promote hope and recovery.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in mental health or human services preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) in the State of Iowa, Iowa Peer Workforce Collaborative (University of Iowa) training, or a BA, BS, or BSW in a related field required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within six months of hire.
