Job Summary
The Peer Health Educator serves as a student leader within the Wolves RISE Collegiate Recovery Program, promoting health, safety, and well-being across campus. This role focuses on Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) prevention and awareness through peer-led education, outreach, and support. Peer Educators are trained to facilitate workshops, lead campus events, and serve as role models for healthy behaviors, contributing to a recovery-ready campus culture.
Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the Health Educator and Graduate Assistant, Peer Educators will:
- Facilitate peer-led workshops and presentations on AOD and wellness topics
- Provide outreach and support during campus events, tabling, and social initiatives.
- Serve as a role model for healthy behaviors and inclusive practices
- Collaborate with campus departments (e.g., Counseling Center, Residence Life, Health Services)
- Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and team meetings
- Assist in the development and implementation of health promotion campaigns
- Support harm reduction efforts including Naloxone training and distribution
- Engage in sober social events and recovery-friendly programming
- Attend all scheduled meetings and trainings
- Work independently and collaboratively with the team
Additional Expectations: - Exhibit a passion for health and wellness and a willingness to serve as a role model
- Be available for after-hour and weekend events as needed
Required Qualifications
- Must be a full-time UWG undergraduate student in good academic standing (GPA ¿ 3.0)
- Demonstrated interest in health promotion and substance use prevention
- Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills
- Ability to work with individuals and groups in a leadership capacity
- Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License
Physical Requirements/ Working Conditions
- Must be able to work up to 10 hours per week, including evenings and weekends
- Frequent standing, walking, and student interaction during outreach
- Ability to lift and transport materials up to 10 lbs. (e.g., event supplies)
- Work conducted in-office and across campus at various locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of NASPA's Certified Peer Educator (CPE) training
- Enrollment in Health Promotion, Psychology, Counseling, or related academic program
- Experience in student leadership, mentoring, or community engagement
- Familiarity with campus health and wellness resources
