Job description

Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician assists Peabody Plant Operations/Facilities with all general maintenance duties to include electrical, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC. Performs all painting and general repair work on the Peabody campus. Delivers and sets up furniture for all offices, classrooms and concert halls.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs duties related to painting, groundskeeping, light fixtures, light plumbing, drains, fuses, sump pumps, switches, faucets, moving furniture, electrical such as changing out outlets or toggle switches and the replacements of the light fixtures in the dorms and studios around campus.
  • Assists with routine to intermediate plumbing, carpentry, electrical and painting work.
  • Works with the facilities team and housekeeping team for snow removal and safety.
  • Performs sheet rock repairs as needed up to and including installing new walls or ceilings.
  • Carries, lifts and delivers supplies and tools; works on ladders and scaffolding: Changes light bulbs which are great in number, in hard-to-reach areas and in very high elevations; involved with technical lights in performance halls.
  • Moves furniture around on campus on a frequent basis as well as moves furniture and items to and from the warehous. Assists with furniture replacement for campus spaces and maintaining the office warehouse.
  • Opens and closes work orders and enters them properly and efficiently into the work order system. Keeps the appropriate people informed of the status of the work order.
  • Helps to maintain the computerized HVAC system called Metasys and assists the HVAC Technician on a regular basis.
  • Maintains all tools, equipment and inventory for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform the job.
  • Operate JHU vehicles and pickup parts and material from vendors, warehouse and stores as needed.
  • Complies with all building and safety regulations and all university policies and procedures.
  • Required to respond to emergency situations during our after hours for the purpose of health and safety. Will involve occasional overtime and weekend work.
  • Work along with and assist housekeeping when needed.
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License with good driving record.
  • Three years of experience to include knowledge of HVAC, basic carpentry, basic plumbing and painting.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be able to use the tools and systems necessary to the trades and to the daily functioning of the position
  • Must be ablet o communicate professionally with faculty, staff and students clearly
