Department Summary

The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNT Health) invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Genetics.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished scientist and academic leader to guide one of UNT Health's most collaborative and research-intensive departments at a time of remarkable institutional momentum. As UNT Health continues to invest in biomedical discovery, translational science, simulation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the next Chair will play a central role in advancing research, developing faculty, preparing future scientists, and shaping the department's long-term strategic direction.

Position Overview

The Postdoctoral Research Associate's duties are related to research activities utilizing an advanced level of knowledge within their perspective field. They will also contribute to writing proposals and papers, while helping to maintain laboratory equipment, and may contribute to the training and supervision of students or any other assigned individuals.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree. If not yet conferred, a letter from the school's official Graduate Office and/or Registrar's Office certifying that all requirements have been met and stating the degree conferral date can be accepted. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Execute experiments independently, collect data and take good notes of experiments, and keep up to date with the most recent literature in the field of study.
  • Write manuscripts and prepare materials for scientific presentations inside and outside.
  • Perform technical procedures involved in execution of own experiments (i.e. Analyze experimental results of experimental protocols).
  • Presentation of project results to internal and external parties.
  • Operates specialized scientific equipment.
  • Performs statistical analyses, including selecting the appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, designing and writing programs to perform analyses, and producing written reports on the result of the analyses.
  • Write research results for publication (i.e. Clearly summarize data for analysis, prepare needed figures for publication and participate in preparing revisions of manuscripts.)
  • Provide knowledge and help with experiments as requested by graduate students.
  • Engaged in fieldwork and writing of technical publications and reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced training in genomic research methods.
  • Demonstrated expertise in modern population genetic methods.
  • Proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (e.g. R or Python.)
  • Proficiency in a UNIX-based high-performance computing environment.

Job Duties

  • Design of scientific studies using existing genomic datasets.
  • Conducting computational and statistical analysis on human genomic data sets.
  • Coordination of multi-level scientific teams as part of ongoing internal, national, and international collaborations.
  • Managing regulatory (e.g. IRB) and budgetary aspects of a scientific research project.
  • Contribute to grant proposal, prepare manuscripts and technical reports and present to scientific, professional, and community audiences and stakeholders.
  • Coordinating and mentoring students and trainees. Stay current with emerging trends and scientific literature in human genomics.
