Job description

Our organization is seeking a Pulmonary Critical Care (PCC) Staff Physician who will also hold a dual academic position with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). This role reports to the Chief of Specialty Care and collaborates with other members of the PCC and subspecialty teams to deliver evidence-based, patient-focused care to veterans. The PCC Physician is expected to provide care characterized by patience, compassion, and appropriateness, effectively promoting health and addressing disease prevention and treatment.

The Medical Center features a primary campus along with ten community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). It operates as a 1a complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system situated in one of the fastest-growing regions for veterans in the United States. The facility offers comprehensive services to over 47,000 veterans across a 52-county area in western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds, featuring a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and serves as a teaching hospital that provides a full spectrum of patient care services, equipped with cutting-edge technology and extensive education and research programs.

Key Responsibilities:

The PCC Staff Physician will oversee patient care, lead daily clinical rounds, and manage discharge planning alongside the interdisciplinary team in the ICU, pulmonary outpatient service, and pulmonary consultation service. This role includes participating in the on-call schedule as assigned by the Service/Section Chiefs. The PCC Physician must demonstrate strong decision-making abilities in both clinical and administrative contexts, including serving on committees as a member or chair when necessary. Additionally, the PCC Physician will mentor Residents, Medical Students, and Fellows in the PCC field.

  • U.S. Citizenship Required
