Pcb Designer Part Time information
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a PCB Designer (Part Time), and why are they important?
How does a part-time PCB Designer typically collaborate with engineers and manufacturers while managing a flexible schedule?
What is the difference between Pcb Designer Part Time vs Pcb Engineer?
| Aspect | Pcb Designer Part Time | Pcb Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Typically an associate degree or certification in PCB design | Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field |
| Work Environment | Freelance or part-time roles, often remote or flexible | Full-time, in-office or remote engineering teams |
| Industry Usage | Used in electronics manufacturing, prototyping, and small projects | Involved in product development, complex circuit design, and manufacturing |
The main difference is that Pcb Designer Part Time roles are typically flexible, project-based positions requiring basic PCB design skills, while Pcb Engineers are full-time professionals with advanced engineering credentials working on comprehensive circuit development.
What does a PCB Designer do, and what are the typical responsibilities of a part-time PCB Designer?

Job description
About Science and Technology Corporation (STC): STC is a science and engineering research and services support company with proven expertise and experience spanning research, development, test, and evaluation in areas including aerospace engineering, earth and atmospheric sciences, chemical and biological defense, military systems and technology, and software development. Employment Category: Part-time surge position: up to 20 hours per week, with schedule flexibility based on design, fabrication, and test milestones. Duty station is within the NASA AFRC area; relocation or travel to AFRC will not be accommodated.
Onsite presence is not required every day-work is part-time surge and may be accomplished offsite until integration and test activities require onsite support at AFRC. Location: Within the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) area - hybrid; offsite work permitted until integration and test Work performed in office, control room, and field environments. Work Environment: Work includes office/design environments and electronics laboratory environments during circuit card test and integration.
Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen Job Summary The Simulation Electronics Engineer provides research-level electronics engineering support to the Simulation Engineering Branch (Code 580) at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center under the Engineering and Technical Support Services (ETSS) contract. This position supports the design, development, and test of a power distribution board used in the cockpit interface unit subsystem
The work consists of designing the electronic circuit card, completing schematic capture in preparation for board production, and testing the circuit card design once returned from the board manufacturer to verify it operates within required operational parameters-or modifying the circuit should it not function as required. This is a part-time surge position (up to 20 hours per week). Work may be accomplished offsite within the AFRC area until integration and test activities require onsite presence.
Primary Responsibilities Design an electronic circuit card (power board) to distribute power within the cockpit interface unit subsystem. Complete schematic capture and printed circuit board (PCB) layout in preparation for board production. Define required operational parameters and develop test procedures for circuit card verification.
Test the manufactured circuit card to ensure it operates per required operational parameters. Troubleshoot and modify the circuit design should the circuit not function as required. Develop firmware and support data acquisition as required for circuit test and integration.
Document design, schematics, test results, and design changes. Coordinate with the Simulation Engineering Branch for integration and test of the power board within the cockpit interface unit subsystem. Key Benefits and Impact Apply deep electronics design expertise to flight research simulation hardware at NASA Armstrong.
Own the power board design end-to-end-from schematic capture through fabrication, test, and integration. Support the cockpit interface unit subsystem used in real-time simulation of research aircraft. Enjoy a flexible, part-time surge schedule with hybrid work until integration and test.
